I’m thrilled to share that the first academic journal publication on the US Social Value Bank is now live! This marks a key step forward in valuing subjective well-being in the U.S., using U.S.-based data and a U.S.-proposed WELLBY—aligned with the latest Green Book Treasury Guidance. 📄 Read it here Open Access! https://lnkd.in/gH-Z_8KT This work would not have been possible without the many of you who offered support through foundational research, methodological guidance, early reviews, and thoughtful feedback. Tim Goodspeed and I have more in the works, but for now, we’re proud to be part of the growing conversation on valuing well-being. In the US, there are a lot of limitations to overcome to measuring and valuing well-being. This is a beginning. But we hope it contributes meaningfully to your work and the broader effort to integrate well-being into decision-making.

Social Value International is proud to be a founding collaborator of the ImpactWorks Alliance, a new global partnership for action on sustainability convened by UNDP and ISO - International Organization for Standardization. We’re joining forces to support a fundamental shift in private sector leadership, one that embeds sustainability and impact into decision-making and redefines performance to include people and planet, not just profit. 📝 Read our full statement here: https://lnkd.in/e3W7CBrH #socialvalue #impactworksalliance #SDGs #ISO53001 #sustainabilityleadership #impactmanagement #FfD4 #UNDP #SVI
🎥 On day four of the #FFD4 Conference in Sevilla, Şebnem Şener, Head of Private Finance at UNDP, underscores why private capital is critical to achieving the bold ambitions of the Outcome Document and the Sevilla Platform for Action. The global financing gap for the SDGs now exceeds US$4.3 trillion annually, even as global wealth surpasses US$450 trillion. The problem is not scarcity—it is misalignment and limited access. That’s why the launch of the ImpactWorks Alliance today is so significant. Co-led by UNDP and ISO - International Organization for Standardization, in collaboration with Social Value International, and named in the Sevilla Platform for Action, this new alliance engages private sector leaders and key stakeholders to scale impact-aligned investment and unlock real financing solutions for people and planet. As Şebnem explains, #FFD4 is not just about more finance. It is about transforming how we finance development. UNDP is proud to catalyze partnerships, mobilize private capital, and help countries turn ambition into action.

📣 Today, Social Value International (SVI), in partnership with UNDP, has launched the SDG Impact Standards Assurance Scheme, a pioneering initiative to independently verify organisations’ internal management practices against the SDG Impact Standards. Unveiled at the UN’s Fourth Conference on Financing for Development (#FfD4), this marks a major step in embedding sustainability into core business practices. 💬“We are proud to be leading this important step in strengthening impact integrity and accountability worldwide. The Assurance Scheme gives organisations a robust way to demonstrate how they are aligning with the SDGs – not just in rhetoric, but in how they manage, govern and make decisions”. - Ben Carpenter, CEO of Social Value International. This assurance mechanism complements SVI’s broader mission to change the way the world accounts for value through decision making that enhances wellbeing and reduces inequality. 🌎 📖 Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/euwCiBM7 🔗 Learn more and register your interest in the scheme: https://lnkd.in/eeeZvejb #Sustainability #SDGs #ImpactAssurance #SocialValue #UNDP #SDGImpactStandards #ESG #SustainableFinance #ImpactMeasurement #SVI

*What is the SROI and how is it measured?* Under the Springpod approach, it captures the social impact of change by assigning monetary values to social, environmental and economic outcomes, measuring social value in financial terms. “This allows us to calculate a ratio of benefits to costs. For example,” Springpod’s white paper explained, “a 3:1 ratio means that an investment of £1 generates £3 of social value.” A similar application of SROI can be found in community sport and leisure activities in England. Sport England’s autumn 2024 report, ‘Active Lives’, reported that the annual social value of community sport and physical activity was £107.2bn. The value was made up of £96.7bn in annual wellbeing value for adults, children and young people taking part and volunteering in sport and physical activity – and a further £10.5bn in wider savings to the health and social care system a year. Sport England explained: “This relieves pressure on the NHS through the prevention of illness, reduced mental health service usage, fewer GP visits and a reduced need for informal (unpaid) care.” With VWEX, Springpod says it aims to use SROI to quantify their social impact in terms of improved career outcomes, increased employability and enhanced social mobility. It also intends to provide data-driven insights to inform programme design, resource allocation and strategic planning along with demonstrating the VWEX programmes’ value and impact to stakeholders such as funders, educators and employers. https://lnkd.in/gCqghxmh
