Hi, Microsoft 365 Insiders! I’m Bola Soneye, and I’m a Product Manager on the OneNote team. I’m thrilled to announce a highly requested feature from our passionate OneNote community is now rolling out to Insiders: the ability to merge table cells!
Merge table cells in OneNote on Windows and for Mac
We heard your feedback loud and clear! This update to Microsoft OneNote on Windows and OneNote for Mac is all about giving you more control and a smoother note-taking experience that matches your experience in apps like Word.
Whether you’re building custom headers, grouping content, or simply cleaning up the look of your tables, the new merge table cells capability brings you more flexibility.
How it works
- Open a new or existing OneNote notebook on your Windows or Mac device.
- Create a table by selecting Insert > Table, then select two or more adjacent horizontal or vertical cells in the table.
- Right-click on the highlighted cells, then select Table > Merge Cells, or select Merge Cells in the Table tab on the ribbon. The content will then align and update automatically.
NOTE: You will be able to see merged cells and edit them after they’ve merged in OneNote on the web, OneNote for Android, and OneNote for iOS.
Availability
The ability to merge table cells is available to OneNote users running:
- Windows: Version 2508 (Build 19030.10000) or later.
- Mac: Version 16.100 (Build 25072020) or later.
Don’t have it yet? It’s probably us, not you.
Features are released over some time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.
Feedback
Your feedback helped shape these features. We’d love to hear more: Go to Help > Feedback in OneNote to share your thoughts!
