Hi, Insiders! My name is Beth Jester, and I’m a Product Manager on the Outlook team. I’m very excited to share that you can now choose different fonts when composing an email in Outlook for Android and iOS.

Try out fonts in Outlook for Android and iOS

The same fonts you are accustomed to in other Microsoft 365 apps are now available in Outlook for Android and iOS, including everything from Aptos to Comic Sans to Wingdings. The ability to change fonts was the most requested feature from Outlook mobile users – we’ve heard you, and it’s here!

Whether you want to change the font in the body of an email to be more expressive, in your email signature for personal or organizational branding purposes, or in your automatic replies to make them stand out, you can now do it all on your mobile device. We’ve also added support for all the same fonts in the reading pane, too, keeping the sender’s expression intact. We will continue to improve the email formatting experience over time, so all requests are welcome!

How it works

  1. When composing an email, updating your signature, or editing your automatic replies text on your Android or iOS device, select the familiar Formatting button (the A with a pencil) on the toolbar.
  2. You will notice a new option in the formatting toolbar to select your font.
  3. Choose the font you would like to use, and you’re on your way!

NOTE: Fonts that have not been used recently will not be available offline.

Availability

Fonts are available to Android Beta users running version 4.2427.0 or later of the app, and iOS TestFlight users running version 4.2442.0 or later. We are slowly rolling this feature out to production users running version 4.2452.0 or later in order to monitor bugs and feedback.

Feedback

We’d love to know what you think of this new addition to Outlook for Android and iOS, and what else is important to you while you’re composing an email on mobile.

Send us your feedback by going to Settings > Help & Feedback > Send Feedback in the Outlook app. Please use the hashtag #OutlookMobileFonts in your response so we can quickly identify feedback on this feature, and #OutlookMobileFormatMe to let us know what else you need to help make your mobile emails beautiful and professional.

After updating the app, you will be able to change the default font and size for composing New Messages.

I decided to check the other day and I now have the ability to change the default font. (Android).  I'm so happy.  Thanks for listening MSFT!

  • I too would like control over the DEFAULT font, rather than Aptos being forced on me, and having to start every Outlook for Android email by changing font.

I have reverted back [away from Aptos] on PC etc.  Now just need it on Android device.

Personally I feel the changes have been retrograde, at the moment.

    Thanks.

You can try now after updating the app. You will be able to change default font in Settings -> Mail -> Compose (Section) -> Font.

We are in June now and I’m still waiting for font selection to be released in the mobile app in iOS. It’s disappointing that I’m still having to draft emails using the phone but cannot send it until I get into a PC.

I have it on iOS with the recent update.

But, the only problem is there is no section for recent fonts.

I am running Android version 4.2515, which is much newer than the version you have blogged, but I don't see any font selection. Is this feature being removed?

we have not rolled out to 100% of production users quite yet, so some folks have it and some don't. We are rolling out in a controlled way to ensure quality. We are expecting Android to finish rolling out very soon, iOS we are continuing to monitor for a bit longer.

Thanks, BethJester & MS Team for making this happen. I am so glad I am able to change the default font on the Outlook Mobile app on iOS. I have waited for this for years.

Hi Beth, I'm not a techie, but I'm keen to explore different fonts in iOS Outlook.  I have downloaded Testflight, but what do I do next, please? Sorry for the basic question! Thanks

Good day.  I have a slew of attorneys that are eagerly awaiting the ability to change fonts in Outlook for Mobile (on iOS).  As you may expect, attorneys are concerned  as it doesn't look professional when their email messages generated from mobile devices have a different font. I had filled a ticket with support (2502110040012414), and was told that the deployment of this important feature would be completed by the end of March.  other than one user in Asia, none of my attorneys appear to have the feature available today, when may we expect it to show up? Thank you in advance!

Your attorneys after updating the app will be able to set default font only on iOS Outlook Mobile app.

Why is the font and size of message text different from the font and size of the signature text in the Outlook mobile app on iOS? I have v4.2506.1 and no option to change the font or size with any of this beyond the style (Body/Subhead/Title). 😒

      Hi Schyler Jones

Size selection is on the roadmap

You say you are seeing a different size in your signature? Did you paste your signature from elsewhere?

      Thanks!

Thanks for the response. It's been a long time since I set up the signature but given my penchant for retyping information, I'd say I likely copied and pasted the signature text from an existing email message at the time.

In Outlook mobile, the signature font is Calibri 11, but message text is Aptos 12. In Outlook desktop and Outlook web, everything is Aptos 11.

In Outlook mobile, when drafting a new message, if I highlight the signature text and cycle through the 3 style options such that 'Body' is applied to the signature, the signature text changes to Calibri 12.

How do I set Aptos 11 for everything in the Outlook mobile app to match Outlook desktop and Outlook web?

    Dear Beth,

Fantastic news and now just please allow to set a default font and default font size for all outgoing E-Mails 😃

Totally agree.  Having to set fonts for each email is not helpful when companies have standard fonts we have to use, which mine does.  Thank you for working on this Beth!

We're working on default font selection and a few more surprises 🎁

        Thanks for the surprises, BethJester

I know I am asking for too much. :P If possible, is it possible to change the font color for replies and forwards on Signatures just like how we have in the Outlook Desktop app.
