KQL: setting query time leads to problem in watchlist column projecting
Hello to the community! I have stumbled upon a very strange issue when using watchlists. I have a watchlist with 2 columns (userPrincipalName, allowedActivity) that I am then using to whitelist activities. Watchlist is imported using: let WhitelistedUsers = _GetWatchlist("testQuery") | project userPrincipalName, allowedActivity; Then I wanted to set it to a specific time frame to test it on given data set: set query_now = datetime("1/14/2022, 1:45:46.556 PM"); Problem is that when setting my query for a specific time, I get the following error from the watchlist: 'project' operator: Failed to resolve scalar expression named 'userPrincipalName'. Commenting the set query_now solves the project problem (not my problem though). I tried to set the time before and after watchlist import but that does not solve the issue. I could not find any posts around the topic (quite a specific one), so anyone observed similar behaviors or has a possible explanation? I can probably work around the set query_now with other functions but I gotten used to it, and find this behavior extremely strange4.2KViews0likes4CommentsIncident Missing Entities
Good morning! I would like to have some clarification on how entities work. Yesterday I found out that if I have 2 entities of the same type (In this particular case, two entities of the type Account), with the same identifier (originally, both share the identifier 'Name'), Sentinel appears to throw away one of them, or both in some instances, and when the alert generates an incident, the entities defined won't appear. I have switched out the identifier on both account types to something different, but until an incident gets triggered, I can't confirm if this will fix the original issue. So my questions are An analytic rule can or can't have two entities of the same type defined? If yes, that means that they need to have different identifiers. Is this a correct asumption? Some identifiers expect a certain type of value to be assigned, that means that eventually, I can ran out of identifiers for my entities or face the added complexity of dealing with types when returning values from my KQL query What could happen if I map an identifier to something that matches the type but not what that identifier represents? in this case, for Account, we have the identifier ObjectGuid. If I assign a value type string to it, that is not a guid, wouldn't that mess up something else in the background? Example, incident grouping If I move instead to use Sentinel Entities, which appear to be the 'general' option, I could only use one, since I only have 'entity' as available identifier, looping back to the problem of can have only one type of identifier for identity type. Hi All, Before I get nuked in the comments to raise an issue on the Sentinel Repo. Here me out 😇 Around a month ago, the logs stopped ingesting. A quick snoop around revealed the reason. But I'm not sure if I should raise an issue, or try to fix the issue, risking voiding any future support I can get, since the connector and the app that comes with it are market solutions. Function app was not running due to a dependency issue. Spotted this on the diagnostic logs, under the "exceptions" table. "module named _cffi_backend not found" a python package google tells me, thats used to interact with C code. So logically, I need to find the requirement.txt and make sure the dependency is there. Also make sure the python version on the runtime and Azure matches, The logs were initially flowing as usual . I had completed integrating Trend Micro using Azure Functions based connector around 7 months ago. Worked like a toyota helix until now. So once again, would like to know the community's thoughts on it. Thxx32Views0likes0CommentsUnified SecOps XDR
Hi, I am reaching out to community to seek understanding regarding Unified SecOps XDR portal for Multi-tenant Multi-workspace. Our organization already has a Azure lighthouse setup. My question is if M365 lighthouse license also required for the Multi-tenant Multi-workspace in unified SecOps XDR portal?52Views0likes0CommentsZoom logs into Sentinel
Hi I am reaching out to community member because facing a hustle while integrating the Zoom with Sentinel. while following the document provided inside the Zoom data connector, deployed an App over the zoom extracted the required information, create function app on Azure and provided the account ID, client ID, Client secret everything but facing one error that the account has not audio conference plan function app is running successfully but in the invocation logs its showing this audio conference plan to make sure we have purchased the zoom audio conference plan but still its giving us the same error. If anyone has done this please please share your experience with us how did you integrate zoom with sentinel because from last two months we are struggle with it.136Views0likes6CommentsMulti-trigger Playbooks & Renamed Triggers
Hello Sentinel enthusiasts, In some cases, deploying a playbook with multiple triggers is a much easier solution than having 9 playbooks which do the same thing. In the specific example I'm going for I have developed a playbook which requires the user to change their password within a certain amount of time. We want to have the ability to have three triggers for the playbook - incident, entity and http (for external orchestration platforms) - then we also want to have the option for it to be instant, or within a configurable number of days/hours (1day, 7days). In this situation the native way would be to have 9 playbooks in total - seems like a big amount for a simple action. I attempted to initially develop these playbooks with all three triggers in a base template which is deployed using bicep - success. But what do you know, at first, I could only see the playbook in the automation playbook list saying "Sentinel Action" but I couldn't trigger it from an actual incident or entity. Turns out this was because I had given the trigger a different display name than the default. This specific case seems a bit odd to me because the underlying data is the same, nonetheless - not a huge issue, change the display name to the default and voila. My next surprise was when I realised that the Sentinel UI will only pick up the first trigger to run a playbook. i.e. if I define an entity trigger first then an incident trigger, I cannot see it appear to trigger for an incident and vice versa. So, I set on a mission and was able to create a chromium extension which will modify the resource response - to duplicate a playbook once for every trigger it has (only in the azure portal PWA) and what do I know - everything works perfectly as if it was fully supported. It would be great if these UI bugs could be fixed as they seem pretty trivial and don't seem to require a major change, considering it is solely a frontend bug - especially if I can create an extension which resolves the issue. Obviously, this is not an ideal scenario in production. Garnering some support to have this rectified would be great and it would also be cool to hear people's opinions on this ~Seb35Views0likes0CommentsSentinel and Chinese branches
Hi, is it possible to send logs from servers located in China to a Sentinel workspace in EU or to manage from a single pane of glass 2 istances, one of which is in China? i am trying to figure out the best way to accomplish it given that the great chinese firewall could block DCR communications and that using a VPN to send logs to a log forwarder via VPN is very expensive (for the government license). Is anyone aware if the multi workspace incident views is working with Lighthouse for a global tenant and a chinese one? Or the multitenant solution? Thank you84Views0likes2CommentsNot showing GWorkspaceActivityReports Table in Sentinel
Hello, We have integrated Google Workspace with MS Sentinel through Azure function ARM template and both the functions GWorkspaceReports-QueueTrigger and GWorkspaceReports-TimeTrigger showing fetching Google workspace events but the connector is showing disconnected and could not find any relative table in the Sentinel workspace. Please help us on this to fetch Google workspace events. Thanks, Yugandhar.23Views0likes0CommentsError when running playbook Block-AADUser-Alert
Hello, I have personal account and I am trying Microsoft Sentinel. My senario is when user account (not admin) changes his authentication method, an alert is triggered and then I run built-in playbook Block-AADUser-Alert to disable this account. I get following error when running this playbook: { "error": { "code": "Request_ResourceNotFound", "message": "Resource '[\"leloc@hoahung353.onmicrosoft.com\"]' does not exist or one of its queried reference-property objects are not present.", "innerError": { "date": "2022-05-13T03:06:46", "request-id": "84bab933-eb79-4352-9bdf-e6d5444a1798", "client-request-id": "84bab933-eb79-4352-9bdf-e6d5444a1798" } } } I have tried to assign all required permissions (User.Read.All, User.ReadWrite.All, Directory.Read.All, Directory.ReadWrite.All), authorized api connection,.. but it can not solve the issue. Would anyone help advise how to solve ? Is it because of personal account ? Best Regards, AnSolved6KViews0likes30CommentsMicrosoft Sentinel - Alert suppression
Hello Tech Community, Working with Microsoft Sentinel, sometimes, we have to suppress alerts based on information about UPN, IP, hostname, and other. Let's imagine we need to suppress 20 combinations of UPN, IP hostname. Sometimes, sometimes, the suppressions fields should be empty or should be wildcarded (meaning it can be any value in the log that should be suppressed). What is the best way to suppress alerts? - Automation rules - seems not flexible and works only with entities. - Watchlist with "join" or "where" operator - good option, but doesn't support * (wildcard) - Hardcoded in KQL - not flexible, especially when you have SDLC processes Please, your ideas and advice.152Views0likes2CommentsInsecure Protocol Workbook
Greetings, maybe most orgs have already eliminated insecure protocols and this workbook is no longer functional? I have it added and it appears to be collecting but when I go to open the template it is completely empty. Is the Insecure Protocol aka IP still supported and if so is there any newer documentation than the blog from 2000 around it? I am hoping to identify ntlm by user and device as the domain controllers are all logging this and the MDI agents on them are forwarding this data to Defender for Identity and Sentinel.165Views1like4Commentsevent hub and azure sentinel
Hi, I landed up in the situation where I need to set up azure sentinel for my organization. I have to collect logs from all the resources and push it into azure sentinel. here is the hurdles there are tons of data and if I push all of it in azure sentinel it will cost me huge amount. that is why I have to make some queries so that I can take limit amount of data(based on queries) which I can use in azure sentinel. I have gone through multiple article but unable to find which is best in this situation. what I am thinking, all data push to event hub then through event hub it will push to azure data explorer here i will create queries to take limited amount of data then that data I will push to azure sentinel, kindle let me know if something needs to improve or if you have better solution. Thanks4.2KViews1like3CommentsS1 Data Connector malfunctioning?
I am utilizing the S1 codeless data connector available in the content hub. It would seem that only a few tables are actually populating with data now. Threats and Alerts are no longer being captured. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any work arounds available? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!32Views0likes0CommentsHow do you investigate network anomaly related alerts?
Hello everyone. Using some of the built-in analytical rules such as "Anomaly was observed with IPv6-ICMP Traffic", when you go into the incident event details, its just some numbers of the expected baseline vs actual value. What do you do with this? Similar case with following rules: Anomaly found in Network Session Traffic (ASIM Network Session schema) Anomaly was observed with ESP Traffic Anomaly was observed with Outbound Traffic Anomaly was observed with Unassigned Traffic1.1KViews1like2CommentsIdentityInfo with analytics KQL query
Hi, I'm currently trying to create a KQL query for an alert rule in Sentinel. The log source upon which the alert rule is based, only contains the SAMAccountName, which prevents me from mapping it to an Account entity in the alert. I'm therefore trying to use the IdentityInfo table to lookup the AadUserId of the user, using the SAMAccountName. The issue I'm running into is that I want my query to run every 10 minutes, and look up data from the past 10 minutes, as this is most suitable given the nature of the alert and the log source. This however causes the lookup in the IdentityInfo table to also only check data from the last 10 minutes, which doesn't work as the data in that table may be much older and therefor fail the lookup of the AadUserId of the user. According to the documentation, the IdentityInfo table is refreshed every 14 days, so for it to work I'd have to create a query that checks all logging, including that of the log source, from the past 14 days, which is not what I want. Hopefully some of you have suggestions or ideas on how to make this work. Thanks a lot! Marek242Views0likes8Comments
