So my out-of-office is most definitely ON! Some much-needed R&R this week over in Greece. But we’ve opted not to do the usual beach holiday. My friend Hannah has been banging on about these ‘adventure holidays’ she takes her family on every year and how we’d absolutely love them so this year, I decided to give it a go. Now it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’ve got active kids who like to be on the go, or you fancy a more energetic kind of break yourself, this will be right up your street. Now I’m here, I totally get why she’s been on at me for years this is honestly NEXT LEVEL. We’re at a Neilson Active Holidays resort in Rhodes (Hannah’s at a different one this year - her third and her favourite so far), and while each one is a bit different, they’re all based on the same idea: a beach club resort with inclusive activities like sailing, cycling, and fitness. And the kids’ clubs are OFF THE CHARTS. Not just ‘childcare so you can get a breather’, but proper adventure clubs — the kind where your kids will come home raving about having had the best time of their lives! Now you know me - I’m ‘moderately’ active at home (I like my running and weight training), but I’d never have considered building that into a holiday. Honestly though, I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying it. I’ve been off to running club every morning and joining aqua aerobics at lunchtime. I haven’t yet made it to the weights classes, mountain biking, or the tennis and padel courts… but we’re only a couple of days in! Ouh and my water sports sessions are booked in for later in the week! Watch this space for my updates! And then doing something active for a couple of hours each day means I don’t feel remotely guilty spending the rest of it lounging in the sun or in the pool! And a massive shout out to my Cathy Chapman at Travel Counsellors. You know how constrained I am with my schedule, (so booking my flight times is always a nightmare!) plus I’m pretty specific about my holiday requirements… I basically gave her the brief of: “I want one of those Neilson holidays my friend keeps raving about, but here’s my list of non-negotiables, please make it happen!” And she did! #adventureholiday #familyholiday #travel #Greece #activeholiday
