We’re part of a new partnership plan to improve the River Lea. A multi-partner initiative to enhance its biodiversity, improve water quality and flow, and create a cleaner, wilder, more accessible river for everyone 🌊 Our rivers and the areas that surround them must be able to withstand the increasing pressures of drought, flooding, and pollution. Achieving this requires collective action. The plan outlines action across five key areas: 1) Improving water quality in the catchment 2) Boosting climate resilience 3) Enhancing biodiversity 4) Raising awareness 5) Improving the shape and flow of rivers Find out more: https://orlo.uk/IuYzB #londonlea #londonlea5YCP

Hackney Council
About us
Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. Hackney has a history of overcoming challenges; we went from being the worst local authority in the country to one of the best over the past 15 years. We have effectively managed the second highest level of cuts in the country whilst prioritising services, focusing on residents, and keeping standards high to make Hackney fairer, safer and more sustainable. Our staff are what makes Hackney Council great and we thrive on challenge and change. Our mission is to make Hackney a place for everyone, where all our residents, whatever their background, have a chance to lead healthy and successful lives; a place of which everyone can be proud, with excellent services, thriving businesses, and outstanding public spaces; a place where everyone feels valued and can make their voice heard. In Hackney we are: Open; Inclusive; Ambitious; Pioneering; Proactive and Proud… of Hackney, of each other, of what we do, and of the Council.

Last summer, we had to make the incredibly tough decision to close four primary schools following a rapid fall in the number of primary-aged. We now have a duty to ensure these buildings aren’t left empty or sold off, but remain important public assets that benefit Hackney. So we’re bringing forward plans that not only bring these spaces back into use, but also tackle some of the most difficult issues we face. https://orlo.uk/snR1G

💚 We held the Hackney Central Showcase at the town hall this Saturday to speak to residents about how Hackney Central is changing (missed Charli xcx by an hour but we're sure she'd love our plans) - Huge thanks to everyone who gave up their weekend to man the stalls in the rain and gathered important feedback from our residents about the changes coming to the area. We had some really interesting conversations, and we're feeling really positive about the changes coming forward. Read more about our UK Government funded plans ➡️ https://orlo.uk/GmAM5

Big smiles for Hackney early years! Seven children’s centres and nurseries across Hackney have been awarded Gold in the Mayor of London’s Healthy Early Years Awards—including Rooftop Nursery, recognised for their supervised toothbrushing programme. Deputy Mayor of London Joanne McCartney and Mayor of Hackney Caroline Woodley visited Rooftop to see the toothbrushing in action and congratulate all of the staff who were involved. These awards are a great reminder of the crucial role early years professionals play in reducing health inequalities and supporting healthy habits that last a lifetime. Hackney is London's number one borough for Green Flag Parks! 🏆 An incredible 33 of our parks and green spaces received the prestigious Green Flag Award — the international benchmark for well-managed, accessible, and biodiverse public spaces. This achievement places Hackney joint first in London and joint second in the UK for the number of Green Flag sites. We’ve surpassed our ambitious target of achieving 32 Green Flag Awards by 2026, which is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated parks team and the support of volunteers and user groups who make our parks the gold standard of green spaces 👏 Read the full story: https://orlo.uk/gEJlW #GreenFlagAward #EnvironmentalExcellence #ParksAndGreenSpaces

We’re proud to have retained 3rd place in the latest Healthy Streets Scorecard, ranking us as one of London’s best boroughs for sustainable travel! 🌟 🌱 The scorecard uses ten key indicators to measure how well each borough supports active travel, clean air, and safer, people-friendly streets. We’re delighted to be leading the way on key measures, including: Highest % of streets within low traffic neighbourhoods Highest % of bus route distance on roads with bus priority Highest rates of cycling Our score improved from 7.44 last year to 7.53 out of 10, placing us just behind Islington and City of London. With more improvements still to come, we’re committed to making Hackney’s streets greener, healthier, and more accessible for everyone. Read the results: https://orlo.uk/9GN1Q
