About us
OUR MISSION We aim to provide as many opportunities as possible for people in Stockport to get involved with turning plastic waste into new things for themselves or the wider community. That includes: - Collecting plastic waste - Cleaning and sorting it - Designing and creating something new out of it We make sure the activities are sociable and practical and suit a range of abilities and time commitments. We also run creative, practical and educational workshops for schools, businesses and other private groups. OUR VISION That resources to reuse plastic waste are part of public social infrastructure. A greener cleaner world, where plastic is regarded as a valuable material that should not be wasted. Cohesive communities that have the infrastructure to work together to tackle shared problems such as plastic pollution.

Introducing another Kao SEED Fund awardee – Plastic Shed! ♻️ Based in Stockport, Plastic Shed brings people together to transform discarded plastic into public art, workshops, and recycled products. Its recent mural, made entirely from repurposed plastic, which involved over 40,000 participants, is the UK’s largest of its kind. With support from the Kao SEED Fund, Plastic Shed will expand its network of Plastic Donation Stations across the borough. These collection points will make donating plastic easier, lower emissions, and encourage more people to get involved in creative recycling. Plastic Shed is inclusive of all ages, offering everyone a way to act on climate, reduce waste, and connect with the community. This project tackles both environmental challenges and social isolation by giving people something meaningful to contribute to, together. Caitlin Marie Atherton, Owner at Plastic Shed, said, “This funding will enable us to put plastic donation points in every area in Stockport to give communities easier access to donating their plastic to us, whilst lowering the carbon emissions for our plastic donors. These new donation sites could also help connect people more to their local areas in their neighbourhood, visiting places they may not have already.” By transforming plastic lids into public art, this project turns waste into beauty and everyday actions into lasting impact. As some of you may know, the incredible @optimaxxuk through @wickes Stockport, donated the screws we needed when we created 'The UKs Largest 100% Recycled Plastic Bottle Lid Mural' in Stockport. At the time, we thought we needed WAY more than we did, and they generously donated over 150,000 screws and even more generously let us keep the leftovers! 💚 . So...we have around 60,000 screws ready and perfect for murals to use up and would love to donate them to any schools who are interested in having a Plastic Shed bottle lid mural of their own! . Let's create a colourful, educational and 100% recycled art piece together ♻️ .
