Our mission is nothing less than a fairer, healthier society
About us
The UCL Institute of Health Equity was launched in 2011 by Professor Sir Michael Marmot. The aim was to build on previous works that had addressed, reviewed and measured inequalities in health - works like the ‘Commission on Social Determinants of Health’ and ‘Fair Society Healthy Lives’ (aka The Marmot Review). Since then IHE has worked on many major reports and projects that address the Social Determinants of Health. These include a Review of Social Determinants of Health and the Health Divide, for the WHO European Region, Indicators for Local Authorities in England, Healthy Places, Health Lives, Social Determinants of Mental Health, and more.

Help make invisible populations visible to policymakers – UCL National Call for Evidence in Inclusion Health The UCL EXPOHS Study is asking the NHS, local authorities, academics, and VCSEs to take 5–10 minutes to complete the survey if they hold anonymised, aggregated data and/or unpublished reports on the health of inclusion health populations in England. Please share this survey with anyone who works in this sector across a range of services. 👉 Take the survey here: https://lnkd.in/ecEewGGC 🕐 Deadline: 18 July 2025 Professor Sir Michael Marmot CH
Help make invisible populations visible to policymakers – UCL National Call for Evidence in Inclusion Health As healthcare workers and researchers working with people facing exclusion, we know that data on their health and wellbeing often exists—but it may be held locally or collected in different ways, and it is rarely brought together nationally. This lack of joined-up data means that even though we see the realities on the ground every day, there’s still a gap in both the evidence that exists and what policymakers and funders understand. The UCL EXPOHS Study is running a Data Availability Survey to understand what anonymised or aggregated data already exists, and where. This is part of a broader study to quantify how social exclusion impacts national health indicators like pre-mature mortality and life expectancy. They are aiming to build the most comprehensive dataset yet to improve these national estimates. We're asking the NHS, local authorities, academics, and VCSEs to take 5–10 minutes to complete the survey if they hold anonymised, aggregated data and/or unpublished reports on the health of inclusion health populations in England. Please share this survey with anyone who works in this sector across a range of services. 👉 Take the survey here: https://lnkd.in/ecEewGGC 🕐 Deadline: 18 July 2025 Questions: Reach out to Rachel Burns, r.burns@ucl.ac.uk
