I think one of the challenges in present day data modelling is how to meet the many needs of the end users where they want to execute different types of workloads all in one place. Its not as simple as it was before where you design one kind of model to meet one type of need. You have to design a model that is flexible enough but also robust enough to scale well and be adoptive to future needs. In my experience the best model that stands the test of time comes from open and interactive design thinking sessions with the business users. Its a truly enriching experience when we take the time to understand the actual business requirements and translate them in to a workable solution!
