After attending a networking event, I make it a point to follow up with a quick, personalized message referencing our conversation, and if possible, share something of value—like an article or resource. It’s a simple yet effective way to build genuine connections and keep relationships warm for future opportunities.

Send personalized thank - you notes: Write promptly: Send thank - you messages within 24 - 48 hours after the event. This shows your professionalism and that you value the connection. Be specific: Mention something specific from your conversation with each person. For example, you could say, "It was great speaking with you about your experience in the [industry name] industry. The insights you shared about [specific topic] were really eye - opening." This shows that you were actively listening and engaged during the event. Add value: Include any relevant information or resources that might be of interest to the recipient. It could be an article, a report, or an event invitation related to the topics you discussed. anything more ?

After an event, I follow up with intention. I send personalized messages, referencing something specific we discussed — it shows I truly listened. I share relevant content, like an article, a quote, or even a connection that might be helpful. I’m not selling anything — I’m building bridges. Over time, this positions my personal brand as someone who adds value, cares genuinely, and nurtures meaningful connections. That’s where the magic happens.

One thing I have found helpful when it comes to networking follow up is a waiting about 3-5 business days. I don’t want to be immediately forgotten again because I followed up the next day. Wait a bit and send a personal message like “it was great connecting with you at event on date. I hope business has continued to increase. I wanted to follow up on our chat about subject…” and continue on, creating a meaningful and personal message to boost the connection factor and move toward a “capital r” relationship that is beyond transactional.

In my experience the best way to boost your personal brand with a follow up is to reach out authentically to share your expertise. Be of service in some way. It's not always about what expanding your network will do for you, but how you could be of service to others. Building community is also an important part of leveraging your personal brand. You are not only building connections for yourself. You are building connections with individuals who could also be of service to others within your wider community.

In Australia’s relationship-driven business scene, smart follow-ups are key to turning networking into real opportunities. Reach out within a few days with a genuine, personalised message—reference your conversation, not just a generic "great to meet you." Offer value, whether it’s sharing an article, a relevant connection, or an idea discussed. Connect on LinkedIn with a thoughtful note, reinforcing your professional brand. Stay visible but authentic—regular, low-pressure engagement builds trust over time. In Australia, it’s not about selling yourself loudly; it’s about showing up consistently and adding real value to the relationship.

Indeed, this post is great, and the comments align with my perspective. We're all on the same page. However, I would also add that after connecting with someone, we should take a moment to consider if following up is worthwhile, as they might not be the right person. I mean, we should spend 5-10 minutes researching their profile before deciding to send a message. I won't reiterate the types of messages others have already suggested, but I believe the focus of our message should be on how we can be genuinely helpful to that person. Ultimately, prioritizing giving over taking will allow them to sense our sincere intention, and this approach will undoubtedly be more effective.

You’ve just attended a networking event, great connections were made, but the real impact happens in the follow-up. To leverage those interactions and boost your personal brand, start by sending personalized follow-up messages within a day or two. Reference something specific from your conversation to jog their memory and show sincerity. Next, offer something of value, maybe an article you mentioned, a helpful introduction, or a quick insight related to your discussion. This positions you as thoughtful and resourceful. Then, stay on their radar. Connect on LinkedIn, comment on their posts, or occasionally share relevant updates to keep the relationship alive. Consistent follow-ups turn brief conversations into long-term opportunities.

You made great connections—now it’s time to turn those handshakes into lasting impressions! 💼 Here's how to leverage follow-ups to elevate your personal brand: 1️⃣ Reach Out Promptly – Send a personalized message within 24–48 hours. Mention something specific you discussed to keep it genuine. 🕒📬 2️⃣ Add Value, Not Just “Nice to Meet You” – Share a helpful article, insight, or offer to connect them with someone relevant. Be memorable through value. 💡🔗 3️⃣ Connect on LinkedIn with Purpose – Don’t just hit “connect”—add a short note that reflects your convo and your vibe. 🤳🔍 4️⃣ Share Content That Reflects You – Post insights from the event, tag people you met (if appropriate), and showcase your passion and perspective. 📢🧠

Follow-ups are where the magic happens! I always start with a message, mentioning something we chatted about then look for ways to offer value. I stay active on socials so I’m not just a one-and-done contact. It’s all about turning a quick convo into a lasting relationship.
