Many businesses focus on delivering positive financial and social impacts. In other words, business leaders operate at the intersection of business and society (i.e., stakeholder capitalism). The data impact framework needs to address both. Defining the business strategy and vital assumptions is essential as is outlining the societal strategy and change assumptions. Within business and societal strategies, metrics are required to understand trends, results, and gaps. The metrics need to be communicated clearly to all stakeholders, along with the results. It is creating a learning model so that the business and stakeholders can adapt as new insights are gained from the metrics.

The impact of data is measured by its ability to enhance decision-making and processes. Key metrics include Return on Investment (ROI), improvements in operational efficiency, changes in customer satisfaction, increases in conversion rates, and the achievement of strategic goals. These metrics help quantify how data analytics contribute to organizational performance

Take an industry for example, say healthcare. In healthcare, data impact can be seen through the implementation of predictive analytics to reduce hospital readmission rates. Key metrics include the accuracy of predictive models in identifying at-risk patients, the reduction in readmission rates, and cost savings from avoided readmissions. In my opinion, "Voices fuel data, data drives analysis, and analysis sparks action". Data is the engine for positive change. By first setting clear goals, we can define the desired future state. We then track progress using measurable metrics to see if we're on the right path. Next, we gather the data needed to understand those metrics, like community surveys or website analytics (ex. Google analytics). By analyzing these findings, we transform raw data into actionable insights that reveal the impact of our efforts. Finally, by clearly showing the results, we can demonstrate how data is driving better decisions that will shape a positive future.

In my experience, if you try to show too much in a dashboard the user gets overwhelmed and any use or insight may be lost. The critical first stage is understanding if this will be an exploratory dashboard (turning over 100 rocks to find one or two gems) or an explanatory dashboard (showing the one or 2 gems to someone else). This will determine the level of detail, interactivity, and outcome you strive for. Begin with the end in mind.

Showcasing KPIs is the main theme of dashboards, having too many KPIs or too many KPIs in a single dashboard can be overwhelming. So Tailoring the Dashboard. At times, having too many visualizations in a dashboard misleads the information.

Regardless of the advanced technology & tools you use for data analytics work, if the culture of the organization does not support data driven decision making, then it's all meaningless. Communities to exchange knowledge and collaborate on analytics problems should also be in place for the culture to flourish. Events should take place frequently. Individuals should be empowered and even compensated for undertaking relevant work, so that other priorities do not hinder data driven culture evolution. This is intended as a mechanism to blow up the overwhelming amount of analytics that are exclusively centered on output driven metrics. It is important though to tread very carefully in assuming causality without firm investigation upfront. You don't want to be in a position where you're misrepresenting data points. In terms who this works for - analytically mature organizations, especially those who have a familiarity with their data, are the candidates as they would have a high degree of contextual knowledge needed.
