At Semco, we once faced internal conflict between two teams—one pushing for AI-based automation in our testing line, the other vouching for proven manual checkpoints. Instead of choosing sides, we created a controlled trial for both methods on separate lines. We measured quality, speed, and cost-efficiency. The data helped us blend the strengths of both ideas into a hybrid model. More importantly, it transformed conflict into collaboration. Real innovation emerges when every voice is respected and tested against real-world outcomes.

Collaborative Brainstorming is helpful when a problem is too complex for one person to solve on their own This technique encourages people to generate as many ideas as possible without judging or critiquing them Collaborative Brainstorming brings in a wide range of ideas that reflect the different thinking preferences across the team It further contributes to people's sense of ownership and buy-in because everyone has a forum for participation The net result is that people see how their work contributes to the overall business strategy Techniques for Collaborative Brainstorming: Brain writing SWOT Rapid ideation Mind mapping Whiteboard Brainstorming Offer alternative ways to provide input, such as anonymous, written contributions

First of all, it's a great thing to have so many innovative ideas from your team to choose from. It means your 360° feedback loop is working. Don't be in a rush to use all the ideas at once. Write them down and establish a implementation calendar and implementation plan for each one. That way you can make sure you have enough resources to fund each idea.

I believe the first thing any business should do is to clearly define their why: What this means is that the major purpose for which they exist in the first place should be clearly stated And everyone on the team should understand that purpose When this happens, there would be no clash of innovations Because clash of innovations simply means clash of purpose

Innovation thrives on diverse thinking, but alignment is key. I’d bring the team together to map out the business outcomes first, what are we solving for? Then we backtrack and evaluate which strategies align best with that goal. In past MuleSoft-led transformations, we often had differing integration approaches, but framing the discussion around reusability, speed, and business impact helped us converge. The goal isn’t to pick a side, it’s to co-create the smartest path forward.

First, acknowledge that candid discussions are better than group-think and you appreciate everyone's willingness to speak up. Second, look back at previous decisions and see if you can draw insights into what worked and didn't. There is no need in reinventing the wheel each time a decision is made. That is why documentation on decision points are key for organizations. Lastly, make a decision that aligns with the current business strategy. If new information is found that shows the business strategy is outdated, report that up with data and qualitative feedback. If multiple decisions exists within the current business strategy framework, build consensus on key points and make the best decision with a clear explanation for why.

I’d start by getting everyone together and just listening ; no interruptions, just understanding where each person is coming from. Then I’d take a step back, think things through on my own, and reflect on what was said. If I still feel strongly based on experience, I’d share my reasons clearly. But if their ideas make more sense, I’d be happy to go with that or find a middle path that we all feel good about.
