Planning ahead is always key. You never want to sacrifice creative or the value of your message because you’re in a hurry. You’ve most likely planned for situations like this and have an old sack full of great creative ready to be recycled and customized. If you don’t have a system in place, it’s a good idea to create one now so you are better prepared next time.

It always seems that it comes down to timing and quality. In my experience if it is a multi phased campaign, one might need to prioritize the e.g. big reveal (later on in creative schedule) with the most time and effort on quality control. If one does not have a specific timing to hit and be flexible, than time is more flexible. Harder to do in a medium such as outdoor formats where space is booked well in advance. Obviously one never actively wishes to reduce quality, but building extra time into the plan can often help with this too.

Research to see what level of creativity will serve the target and audience. Choose the right team with experience to limit errors. Brief carefully based on the requirements of the client or board of directors with a descriptive demo. This way the best product quality will still be maintained. The longer the preparation time, the better the quality of the product.

Balancing creativity and speed means hacking the process entirely. I use the ‘Black Box’ strategy to isolate teams from noise, fostering raw, uninhibited ideas. Chaos sessions with wild prompts (‘How would a chef sell this?’) unlock unexpected breakthroughs. Deadlines become games—‘Create a viral headline in 2 hours!’—to spark adrenaline-fueled focus. First drafts are fearless and outrageous—safe ideas are banned. I also launch bold micro-campaigns early, using audience reactions as real-time feedback to refine. Deadlines aren’t obstacles; they’re catalysts for daring, unforgettable campaigns.

Prioritize clarity and focus on the core message. Use templates or previous successful campaigns as a foundation, streamline approval processes, and delegate tasks effectively. This allows for quick execution without compromising the essential elements of the creative, ensuring both efficiency and impact.
