The U.S. House just voted to make the biggest cuts to Medicaid in history. Lawmakers voted to strip away affordable health insurance from millions of people and increase health care costs. This vote will impact the fight against cancer for years to come. Cancer patients could be kicked off their health insurance, while others who need cancer screenings and preventive care could have to go without. While these cuts are deep and the harm will be significant, ACS CAN advocates fought off deeper cuts and additional damaging policies that would have put affordable health care even further out of reach. As we work to break down the effects of the bill, join us on July 10th for the virtual event “Health Care in Crisis: What Coverage Losses Mean for Cancer Patients and the Road Ahead.” You'll hear from ACS CAN’s President and other experts to learn about the bill, the impact you made, and what happens next. ➡ RSVP: https://lnkd.in/egg3ZRvb #Medicaid #AffordableHealthCare #CancerPatients #HealthInsurance #HealthCoverage

In a victory for the fight against cancer, today the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling in the Kennedy v. Braidwood Management case, upholding the provision of the Affordable Care Act that requires most private insurers to cover evidence-based preventive care recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force without patient cost sharing. This critical decision by the Court will help reduce the cancer burden nationwide by protecting affordable access to lifesaving preventive services, including cancer screening and tobacco cessation. ACS CAN and 32 partner organizations representing millions of patients with serious health conditions and thousands of medical professionals applaud this decision. “Research has shown that any out-of-pocket costs can be a deterrent to accessing proven cancer screening, which can be the difference between life and death,” says ACS CAN President Lisa A. Lacasse. “Preventive care and early detection services save lives, are cost-effective, and improve patient outcomes by preventing cancer and detecting it early when it’s more treatable. We urge the Secretary of Health and Human Services to protect patients, uphold science and evidence-based policies, and continue to support coverage and access to no-cost, evidence-based, recommended preventive services.” Read the full statement from the groups: https://lnkd.in/eTQfjnPA #CancerPrevention #CancerScreening #EarlyDetection #CancerAdvocacy
