Add shape data fields while linking data
- [Instructor] When you link a Visio diagram to data in Excel, you're not restricted to importing data that fits conveniently into predefined fields. In fact, Visio will create data fields for you whenever you link a shape to a row of data that contains fields that do not exist in the shape. Let's begin with a network diagram in which the shapes contain a data value for IP address, but little else. Also, notice that there is no field in the shape data for this router that defines either an administrator or the status of this device. And when I click on a couple of the other servers, you'll see that there is an IP address, no other data, and no field for administrator or status. Here's the data to which we're going to link that diagram. You'll see network name, description, IP address, and so forth. And I've highlighted two column names, one for administrator and one for status, that contain data values that will be added to the diagram. Let's close the workbook and return to the Visio…
