From the course: Gaining Skills with LinkedIn Learning

Setting learning goals

- [Instructor] One of the best ways to make noticeable gains with LinkedIn Learning is to set clear learning goals. Without a plan, it's easy to get overwhelmed by the thousands of available courses; that's why setting SMART goals is a powerful way to stay focused and track your progress. A SMART goal gives your learning direction and makes it easier to measure success. SMART stands for: Specific: define exactly what skill you want to improve. Measurable: identify how you'll track progress. Attainable: make sure it's realistic. Relevant: choose skills that align with your career goals. And time-bound: set a deadline to keep yourself accountable. Let's take a look at an example. Instead of a vague goal like: I want to get better at Excel, a SMART goal would be something like: In the next 30 days, I'll complete the LinkedIn Learning course on PivotTables and apply it to an upcoming project. This goal is specific, focused on pivot tables; measurable, completing a course; attainable, one course in 30 days; relevant, applies to an upcoming project; and time-bound, within 30 days. Now it's your turn. Think about a skill that you want to develop. What is one SMART goal that you can set today? Now take a moment to write down your SMART goal and consider adding relevant skills to your LinkedIn profile to unlock AI-powered core suggestions. Up next, we'll explore how you can quickly find the right content to support your learning journey.
