Using text variables

- [Speaker] When you're working with long documents, you need to take advantage of any kind of automation you can. One simple kind of automation is the text variable feature, which allows you to quickly make things like running headers, chapter numbers, and more. And while they do have some limitations, text variables can be a very useful tool. So let's see how they work. You can find text variables under the type menu in InDesign, under text variables, and I'll choose define to open the dialogue box. On the left, I can see a list of the variables available in this document. And when I click on each one, I can see a little preview of it below the list. I can double click on one to edit it, or I can click on new and choose any kind of variable from the type pop-up menu. So let's check out each kind of variable.
