Integration of sensing and communication

- [Instructor] 6G is expected to leverage integrated sensing and communication, also known as ISAC. ISAC combines radar-sensing data with associated communication data. Radar means radio detection and ranging, which uses radio signals in the radar spectrum range which covers most of the 6G spectrum bands being considered. To make the ISAC work, we'll need to design the wave form of signals that can carry communication data and the radar-sensing data. There are many ways of doing so. Here, let's look at one example. Supposed the OFDM modulation, which stands for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, a well adopted scheme for mobile communication, is used in a transmitter and receiver. We can arrange to make the radar-sensing and the communication data be transmitted on the same link. We can use the so-called comp-type pilot symbols in the OFDM frames that can be used for the radar data processing at ISAC receiver. Depending on the pilot symbol arrangements, there are block type…
