- [Narrator] Imagine being invited to go on an ocean cruise. You're given the route and destinations from those representing the captain. But once aboard, you constantly arrive at locations you didn't expect because they were not part of the advertised route. Not knowing the direction of travel could generate general distrust, suspicion, and a desire to leave the ship. In like manner, organizations that embark on AI initiatives without leading with trust, transparency, and reliability may experience the same reactions from customers choosing to embark with them on their journey. When the AI Act was conceived in April 2021, EU Parliament policymakers were apprehensive about the lack of transparency AI algorithms would have when deciding who would get a job, be granted refugee status, or receive social benefits.
