- [Narrator] The shapefile is a common GIS format. It was created way back in 1994, by Esri, to be used with a product called Arcview. It is still used very extensively, even though it's being phased out eventually, but it's still being used by most GISs including the Esri suite of products. And it's used here, inside of QGIS. Now we have multiple ways of adding shapefiles to our current session. I can certainly use the browser to browse to a shapefile, and drag and drop it in. For example, if I wanted to bring in the intersections, I can drag them in. Click okay. Or, I can drag and drop parcels. Now, there's another way to bring them into my session. Under layer, I can click add layer. Add vector layer. Here I can pick a file. And manually browse to where the shapefiles are located. So in this case, I can bring in the easements dot shapefile. Now you can rearrange the layers. These are shapefiles, again.…
