- [Presenter] You have just returned from a shopping mall and bought a new smartphone and a shirt. The electronic store had enormous range of smartphone brands and a range of prices. In the clothing store, you could pick a shirt based on a range of sizes, a range of colors and a range of styles. In statistics, a range of a dataset is the difference between the maximum and the minimum values. It is the easiest measure to calculate and interpret, as it measures variability using the same units as the data. So how do we calculate it? We have to subtract the lowest value from the highest value of the data set. Let's see it in action in a simple example. I measured the outside temperature at 2:00 PM each day of the week and got these results. We want to find out the range of temperatures. Range equals highest value minus lowest value, so it's 89 minus 75, so it's equal to 89 minus 75 equals 14 Fahrenheit. We can also say…
