- So, SharePoint is a great tool for collaboration, but without careful oversight, it can become a mess of outdated files, inactive sites, and redundant content. This is known as content sprawl, and it can make it hard for users to find what they need, increase storage costs, and create unnecessary risk. As a SharePoint admin, you can help reduce sprawl by setting up inactive site policies and encouraging site owners to take responsibility for managing their content. The first step to managing sprawl is identifying sites that are no longer being actively used. You can do this using the Active sites list in the SharePoint admin center. Here, you'll see a full list of all sites in your tenant, along with details like site type, last activity date, and storage usage. To quickly spot inactive sites, sort the list by last activity.
