"Being given the opportunity to see loads of different people, and learn something new, is extremely valuable." - James Hall, Building Services Construction Trainee. We were delighted to host our first Foundations and Futures event last week for our talented trainees, T-Level students, year-in-industry participants and a work experience student, working across Beard's regional offices. Twelve young professionals from Bristol, Swindon, Guildford, Oxford and Southampton came together for a day of team building and skills development, including: 🧠 Insights methodology to understand different learning & communication styles with Melissa Barber ⚠️ Group challenges and presentations on construction crisis scenarios 🔭 A specialist surveying session with support from our friends at KOREC Group The day was organised and led by Bristol's Social Value Co-ordinator, Bev Parfitt, who saw it as an opportunity for collaboration and connection. In her own words: "It's been absolutely brilliant. I look forward to the future - here's to the next one!" So my name's Beth Parfitt and I'm the social value coordinator here at Beard Construction in Bristol and the Clifton office. So today came about because as I was sat down looking at all the students and looking what we offer at Beers, I realised that there were so many students out there and I just thought wouldn't it be lovely if they could all just come together and be able to talk to each other about their experiences and have time to experience what we can offer as a company. Today I travelled up to Bristol for the Foundations and Futures Day. There were 12 US placement students, also including some work experience students and T level students to learn about personality and the more social side of work today. It's also been really enjoyable because we got to spend some time with KOREC, who are land surveying company, which involved Lidar scanners and the use of technology in construction and how the space is changing so quickly and how Beard can keep up with that. So it's really exciting having correct on board and they. Come to many of our events now and it's just a way of getting our students to be bang up to date and looking at the future of construction. And I found that quite interesting because it really fits my desire to learn about the more technical side of construction. So we've also got a session called Insight Discovery Framework, which is really giving the students a chance to find out about their learning styles, their learning skills, what sort of personality they've got. The good news about doing the Insight Discovery Framework is that you. Start to discover and understand other people's way of working. So being able to explore how different people think, how I personally think what I think is really interesting. I feel like I've gained a lot from today and it's been lovely seeing everyone as spending time with everyone. Being given the opportunity to just see loads of different people learn something new as well, I think is extremely valuable and can open your horizons up a little bit. And it's been absolutely brilliant. We've got so much more out there that we could do. I look forward to the future and. Here's the next one.
