City of Sydney’s Post

Bike trips across our area increased by a massive 20% from March 2024 - March 2025, and Oxford Street is one of busiest bike routes in our city. With the opening of the new Oxford Street cycleway today, riding between the city centre and the city’s east is now easier and smoother. This cycleway is an important piece in the big bike puzzle. In the east it links with Bourke Street cycleway which can take you on to Moore Park, Zetland and beyond. In the west it joins the College Street, Liverpool Street and Castlereagh Street cycleways giving you access to the city’s north, west and south. The cycleway is also a buffer from traffic for people walking, plus we’ve added garden beds and street furniture, and improved the crossings on side streets, making Oxford Street just a nicer place to be. This project was jointly funded by the NSW Government through its Get NSW Active program.

Well done. Keep going. Cycling doesnt work safely and efficiently until there is a comprehensive network of curb separated dedicated bike (scooter, ebike, one wheel, 2 wheel) paths (NOT shared with people, prams, cars), like in Copenhagen and Amsterdam. There is a reason why the Danes are the happiest people on the planet. Great design, social welfare and bike paths.
