  • 🪶 🐨 🏠 🌳 Habitat Hollows & Hollowhog! Hunter Region Landcare Network is working in partnership with the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) to raise awareness and support for private land conservation efforts across the region. 🤝 The  Private Land Conservation Matters Program brings together experts, landholders, and community members to share knowledge and practical tools that strengthen biodiversity outcomes on private land. 🙌 In this feature, conservation biologist and inventor Matt Stephens explores how to create native fauna habitat using the Hollowhog system - a technique designed to fast-track the formation of tree hollows that are essential for many Australian wildlife species. This field day, Hollowhog vs Nestboxes, was held on Dharawal Country at Brunkerville last year as part of the program’s ongoing commitment to practical conservation education. 🚨🎥 https://ow.ly/xG9j50Wwv9L To download an information sheet: 👉 https://lnkd.in/garxmv3g Visit the Landcare NSW website for additional resources on enhancing biodiversity: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dQddAB9j Landcare NSW and the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust are working together to raise awareness, and support private land conservation efforts across the state. • 📣 Scotch Broom Eradicated at Aussie Ark Sanctuary! 🌱 Scotch Broom (Cytisus scoparius), one of the most invasive and destructive weeds in the Barrington Tops, has officially been eradicated from the Aussie Ark Sanctuary. 🌼 Introduced as an ornamental garden plant in the early 1900s, Scotch Broom spread aggressively across the region, where it smothered native vegetation, destroyed wildlife habitat, and fuelled extreme bushfire risk. In 2016, Aussie Ark, in partnership with Scone Landcare and the Department of Primary Industries, released English broom gall mites (Aceria genistae) as part of an ambitious biological control program. These tiny insects have proven to be an effective, natural solution, and today, Scotch Broom has vanished from the sanctuary. 🙌 Managing Director of Aussie Ark, Tim Faulkner, calls it an “ecological miracle”, crediting the mites with helping restore balance to the landscape. Scone Landcare's Ruth Hardy says: "Scone Landcare recognised the invasive weed Scotch Broom had overrun native vegetation in the Barrington Tops sanctuary...By working with Aussie Ark and the Department of Primary Industries, our volunteers were able to translocate gall mite stems to the facility, with monitoring and control efforts making a lasting difference." From Jodie Lovell, NSW Landcare Enabling Program Manager at Landcare NSW: “This is an outstanding example of what can be achieved when passionate organisations like Aussie Ark work hand-in-hand with local Landcare groups. The eradication of Scotch Broom from such a significant sanctuary is not just a local win - it’s a model of success that could be replicated across the state." "Landcare NSW is proud of Scone Landcare to have played an important role in this long-term, science-backed effort to restore native landscapes.” 👉 To learn more about this wonderful project: https://ow.ly/ytuI50WvOQt P.S. Aussie Ark has a surplus of mites - please email admin(at)aussieark.org.au for further details. @aussie-ark1 @nswdpird

  • 📣 Tell Us What Matters To Landcarers - Closing Friday, 18 July!! In the lead-up to Landcare Week and in celebration of Landcare Is For Everyone, we are inviting you to take part in a national survey for landcarers. This survey is being conducted by Landcare Australia, together with the National Landcare Network and the Landcare State and Territory Organisations. 🔍 The survey insights will help us identify the challenges, opportunities, and what is required to support landcare activities across Australia. We would like to know more about what motivates people to volunteer with landcare and how it makes them feel. The short survey will be instrumental in our work to encourage more people to get involved in landcare activities. 🌱 The survey is open to all landcare volunteers, landcare groups, community-led environmental groups, Traditional Owners and First Nations organisations, and those who support landcarers with their sustainable agriculture, landscape restoration, and environmental conservation activities. This data and its insights will help our work in delivering support to the landcare community. 📝 TAKE THE SURVEY: https://lnkd.in/gTh5yPFm #landcaresurvey #landcareweek2025 #landcareisforeveryone #L.I.F.E. • Landcare NSW acknowledges the deep and enduring connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to Country, and recognises their rich cultures, knowledge systems, and custodianship of land, sea, and sky across Australia. For tens of thousands of years, First Nations peoples have cared for this land - observing keenly, listening deeply, and walking gently. Their knowledge and connection to Country is profound, and continues to guide many in how we care for the environment today. We recognise we have much to learn and that meaningful environmental stewardship requires us to walk alongside First Nations peoples in our shared responsibility to care for Country and community. #NAIDOCWeek2025 #FirstNations #TheNextGeneration #Landcare #CaringForCountry #NAIDOC2025 #NAIDOCWeek #StrengthVisionLegacy
