💧 Today, water is at the heart of our energy future. And at EDF, we've known this for a long time with more than 70 years of experience. This June 4, we welcome the publication by the European Commission of the European Water Resilience Strategy, which places this vital resource at the heart of European policies. 🔌 At EDF, water isn't just a resource as over 90% of our electricity production in France depends on water, for hydroelectricity and the cooling of our nuclear power plants. 🌱 97% of water withdrawn by our nuclear power plants is returned to its natural environment, immediately available for other uses. 🔍 Rigorous monitoring guarantees water quality and the protection of biodiversity. 🌊 Hydropower, for its part, is a precious ally: ✔️ It adapts to natural variations, aggravated by climate change ✔️ It limits flooding and supports ecosystems, agriculture and navigation in times of drought. ✔️ And it contributes to drinking water supply, irrigation, industry and even fire-fighting 💡 our R&D is developing digital twins of river basins to model changes in water resources for 2050 and 2100. Achieving climate neutrality by 2050 will inevitably require deep decarbonisation of the industrial sector. One key lever? 👉 #Electrification. 🎯 Six main industrial sectors — chemicals, steel, non-metallic minerals, agri-food, paper, and aluminium — account for 80% of industrial energy consumption in the EU. ✅ The "quick wins" lie in processes requiring temperatures below 500°C, which are more readily electrifiable. 📊 From a technical perspective, up to 95% of Europe’s industrial processes could be electrified, while the economic optimum could be slightly lower. ➡️ To fully unlock this potential, we must foster technological innovation, enhance economic incentives, and overcome organisational hurdles. 💡 The European Industrial Decarbonisation Bank, along with the new state aid framework #CISAF, are among the tools under discussion that — if well-designed — could bridge the gap between ambition and reality. 📣 As the European Commission has emphasised, electrifying industry can go hand in hand with increased competitiveness, provided the right investment framework is in place. Electrification is not just a technological upgrade — it is a cornerstone of Europe’s climate transition. And in your sector, what are the main drivers or barriers to electrification? ╰┈➤ Electrifying industry, Europe’s utilities plot a way towards 2050 - Euractiv https://lnkd.in/ehHiScsx Aurélie Orcibal | Jean-Philippe Laurent | Alexandre Paquot | Benedetta Scuderi | Frauke Thies | Philippe de Lastic | Jean-Philippe Laurent | EDF | European Parliament | European Commission | Papeteries De Clairefontaine | Agora Think tanks | Euractiv | Sébastien de Decker | Dave Keating | Antoine Bizet | Johan Zeltner | Marion Labatut | Luca Camuncoli

🎯 EDF is among the 150 leading companies and investors who have signed the letter urging the EU to set a greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of at least 90% by 2040. Businesses and investors are backing this science-based target as it will bring economic opportunities and competitiveness benefits while increasing energy security for citizens and businesses. This goal should be considered as a central element of the EU’s overall strategy to achieve #competitiveness, #resilience, and #prosperity. ➡️ It is critical that the European Commission and Member states stand by a robust target. Investors and asset managers are already investing massively in the EU in line with its transition towards climate neutrality. The 90% target would help create certainty and momentum for green transition industries that could bolster European competitiveness, yield economic benefits and create jobs. It will enable to direct investment flows in the EU for the development of clean technologies. The global clean technology market is expected to grow by $650 billion annually by 2030, and the value of ‘green industries’ to exceed US$10 trillion by 2050. 🌍 Ultimately, setting a 90% emissions reduction target is a strategic opportunity for the EU, linking climate ambition with energy security, competitiveness, and long-term economic transformation. To make this ambition a reality, EDF believe in a framework built on: 🔹 Technological neutrality – enabling all low-carbon solutions to contribute. 🔹 Electrification – as a cornerstone of decarbonisation across sectors. 🔹 A robust carbon price – to drive investment and innovation. 🔹 A systemic approach – aligning policies, infrastructure, and markets. Together, we can accelerate Europe’s path to climate neutrality. #EDF #ClimateAction #EU2040 #NetZero #EnergyTransition #Decarbonisation Marion Labatut Antoine Bizet Carine de Boissezon 🌏
