What an unforgettable day at The Greatest Gathering in Derby – celebrating 200 years of rail innovation, progress, and partnership with the Alstom family and beyond!   The lead-up to this event as part of the Railway 200 celebrations has been nothing short of extraordinary. The excitement that’s built up since the start of the year, the interest from the public, and the passion from railfans around the world has been truly inspiring. As a huge rail enthusiast myself, I could see that we really are one big railway family — united across borders and our shared passion for this industry.   One of the most powerful moments? Standing beside the world’s first locomotive to run on a public railway. It was a reminder of how far we’ve come – and how much further we can go.   Because rail isn’t just about history. It’s about the future. It’s the cleanest, safest, and most inclusive way to move people and goods - and it’s going to be key to tackling the mobility challenges ahead.   By 2050, we’ll need to decarbonise nearly all transport, grow capacity for booming cities, and make sure mobility is accessible to everyone. That’s why I’m so proud of the work our teams are doing from high-speed trains to digital signalling and green technology, we’re pushing boundaries every day.   The Greatest Gathering is more than just a celebration. It is a call to action.
