"What we are hearing from our colleagues at the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Gaza is deeply distressing. Imagine for 15 days, most of them haven't had a single piece of bread, the few who can afford it are paying $30 for a single pack of spaghetti. One father shared with me that his son told him: "Father, let's try to sleep early as we don't feel the hunger at night." - Mey El Sayegh, head of communications for the Middle East and North Africa at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC

Over the weekend, 100 Egyptian Red Crescent aid trucks entered Gaza, carrying vital food supplies. In the face of immense challenges, Red Cross and Red Crescent teams are working tirelessly to navigate complex realities and deliver life-saving support. But the situation remains catastrophic, and the crisis is deepening with every passing hour. The humanitarian aid now being let into Gaza is simply not enough to meet the needs of civilians, who are running out of options. Efforts must be scaled up significantly, and they must continue, to make sure people can get the crucial support they need – now, and for the months and years ahead.

The announcement of increased aid and temporary humanitarian pauses to facilitate safer movement and distributions, is welcome. However, these efforts must be scaled up significantly, and sustained, to ensure timely, unimpeded delivery of relief.
📍 Gaza | "Aid drops can only bring in a limited amount of supplies. It will be a trickle when we need a flood. They can also be dangerous." Matthew Morris, ICRC spokesperson in London, shared with BBC Scotland 👇🏽

Food is everything. It is life. It is what mothers need to keep their babies with them on this earth, it is what children need to grow, it is what adults need to keep vital organs ticking. Without it, people do not have a future. Aid must be allowed into Gaza without delay, and at scale, to prevent more devastating deaths.

No one should have to risk their life to get basic humanitarian assistance. Recent weeks have seen desperate people risking their lives just to receive basic aid in #Gaza. The population is facing an acute risk of famine, with continuously worsening conditions. Basic food supplies are no longer available in markets or distribution points. The cost of remaining essentials, such as flour, has skyrocketed, with 1 kilogram now reaching as much as $20, making it impossible for two million people to meet their minimum daily nutritional needs. Once again, we reiterate our call for full and unhindered access for humanitarian assistance. Aid must be guaranteed and delivered at scale to meet the overwhelming needs.

With almost no aid for over four and a half months, hope is fading fast across Gaza. Despite grave security risks and dwindling resources, the Palestine Red Crescent Society and the International Committee of the Red Cross continue doing everything they can, with what they have, to support people through continued heartbreak and devastation.

People in Gaza are living on the brink. They need food, water, medicine and safety. There must be a sustained and unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Aid agencies, like the Palestine Red Crescent Society, must be able to deliver it to people who need it most. Civilians and humanitarian workers must be protected, aid must reach those in need and hostages must be released without condition.
