“This isn’t just about money. This is a battle of ideas, it’s about the shape of the world we want our children and grandchildren to grow up in.” Over 120 health facilities across Somalia are at risk due of closing due to cuts in international aid, with children paying the heaviest price. Our CEO Moazzam Malik visited Baidoa, the epicentre of the crisis, with Liz Cookman. This is what they saw: https://bit.ly/4fqB7cg
About us
Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In more than 100 countries including the UK, we help children stay safe, healthy and keep learning. We lead the way on tackling big problems like pneumonia, hunger and protecting children in war, while making sure each child’s unique needs are cared for. We find new ways to reach children who need us most, no matter where they’re growing up. For a century, we’ve stood up for children and made sure their voices are heard. We wrote the treaty that sets out the rights of every child, and we’ve been upholding them every day since. We know we can’t do this alone. Together with children, supporters and partners, we work to help every child become who they want to be.

"When Eglantyne Jebb is arrested for distributing leaflets in Trafalgar Square in 1919, she finds herself at the centre of a storm that will change the lives of children around the world." Last week, Save the Children founder Eglantyne Jebb was profiled on BBC's History Heroes podcast, which shines a light on remarkable people from across history. A huge thank you to historian Alex von Tunzelmann and Eglantyne Jebb's award-winning biographer Clare Mulley for telling our founder's incredible story. Less than one-third of the public think Keir Starmer is doing all he reasonably could and should to protect children from violence and starvation in Gaza, our new polling with YouGov shows. The UK Government cannot stand by whilst Gaza’s population is starved and bombed in plain sight. They must hold the Government of Israel accountable for the harm children have faced, as is demanded by their obligations under international law, and end its complicity in these horrors by suspending all arms transfers to Israel, including components for F-35 fighter jets used to rain terror on children. Now is the time to make our voices heard: call on Keir Starmer and David Lammy to end the UK Government’s complicity. Sign our petition here: https://bit.ly/40DGIWu

On February 28th 2022, on Dima’s* 9th birthday, the world around him changed forever as the war in Ukraine broke out. The Russian bombs didn’t just shatter buildings; they shattered the normalcy of his childhood. Dima misses Kyiv and his friends, but despite leaving everything he knew behind, Dima found a new friendship with Broasca*, a 12-year-old Romanian boy. They met at Save the Children’s summer camp for Ukrainian children and Romanian children from low-income families. Through their friendship, both boys learned an important lesson about building bonds that bridge language and cultural differences. On International Friendship Day we recognise that, especially among young people, friendship holds a special kind of power. Through friendship, we don’t just cope with the world as it is — we begin to shape the world as it could be.

Earlier this year, our incredible colleague Shaima visited Gaza for eight weeks. She met a nine year old girl at one of our education programmes. She asked her dad during the war: "Promise me, I won't die." This girl was injured by a shrapnel wound, which completely damaged the back of her skull. The only thing protecting the soft tissue around her brain was a bandage. She survived and she thinks it's because her dad kept his promise. This girl wants to become a teacher, so 'she can teach everyone how to rebuild Gaza'. ❤️ These children have names, favourite subjects in school and hopes and dreams for the future, just like any other children in the UK and across the world. We refuse to allow their suffering to become normalised. The UK Government must end its complicity by suspending all arms transfers to Israel, including components for F-35 fighter jets used to rain terror on families. The UK has been an ally to Israel's atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank by providing diplomatic cover to the Government of Israel and failing to meaningfully hold them accountable. As we witness these horrors unfolding, it's easy to feel helpless. But there is something we can all do. Now is the time to make our voices heard: Call on Keir Starmer and David Lammy to end the UK Government’s complicity. Israel's siege is starving the people of Gaza. The IPC has said “the worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out in the Gaza Strip.” 88 children have reportedly died due to malnutrition and starvation since October 2023. Under international humanitarian law, an occupying power has the duty of ensuring the food and medical supplies of the population. All available evidence indicates that the Government of Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war. We’re calling for an end to the siege and for the restoration of the full flow of aid through existing principled humanitarian UN-led channels. The UK Government cannot stand by while Gaza's children are starved in plain sight. They must hold the Government of Israel accountable for the harm children have faced, as is demanded by their obligations under international law.

Keir Starmer has said the UK is working on plans to drop aid into Gaza by air. But providing aid to Gaza in one hand and arms to Israel in another is not a solution. It is enabling a cycle of destruction and despair. Now is the time to make our voices heard: call on Keir Starmer and David Lammy to end the UK Government’s complicity. Olivia, 6, is back for her second year of fundraising for Save the Children – and this time she's joined by her little sister, Millie, 3. 🙌 They wanted to support children in Gaza, so they organised a coffee morning in June with raffles, tombolas and cakes. They raised an amazing £450 for our Emergency Fund – a huge thank you Olivia and Millie, you are both fundraising superstars! 🌟 You can still donate via their JustGiving page: https://lnkd.in/e9y8yTNs

Earlier today, the Young Peacemakers Assembly (YPA) brought together young people and community members to share experiences of displacement, belonging, and hope. In a time when the news is filled with distressing stories about conflict and forced migration, it is powerful to create space for reflection, connection, and collective action. The YPA shared a moving piece they’ve been working on for months with Amina Atiq, carefully crafted poem-turned-video, created by young people with lived experience of displacement. Through it, they offer their vision for a fairer, more compassionate society. At a moment when these conversations feel more urgent than ever, it was a reminder of the strength and leadership within our communities.

Earlier this year, our incredible colleague Shaima A. visited Gaza for eight weeks. Whenever she met any children, they loved it when she took photos. However, Shaima didn't realise the deeper meaning behind it until a child told her: "Show everyone that you know that I was here." They wanted to show the world that they existed. These children have names, favourite subjects in school and hopes and dreams for the future, just like any other children in the UK and across the world. We refuse to allow their suffering to become normalised. The UK Government cannot stand by whilst Gaza’s population is starved, displaced and bombed in plain sight. The UK has been an ally to Israel's atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank by approving the supply of British-made parts for F-35 fighter jets, providing diplomatic cover to the Government of Israel and failing to meaningfully hold them accountable.
