We end the week with some fantastic news – our proposed Westcroft battery electricity storage system (BESS) in Exeter has received planning permission 🎉 This now means we can move to the next stage in developing the 57MW site, which is located next to the National Grid Exeter substation, where we have secured a connection directly to the grid. This means the system will be very efficient with minimal loss of energy through the cabling. The size and design of the scheme has also been developed specifically to have as minimal impact as possible, and the area is already well screened from the road with mature hedgerows. Sites like Westcroft are vital to helping the UK unlock the full potential of renewable energy by balancing supply and demand of energy. Today is World Ranger Day — and an opportunity to recognise the brilliant rangers at our Dorenell wind farm. The role of the Dorenell Ranger Service is to improve and maintain the environment around the wind farm for wildlife and visitors, and also ensure access to the upgraded trails. They hold guided walks, cycle rides and events for the local community, and also provide information on the Cabrach, its natural environment and history at the Dorenell visitor centre. The team marked this year’s World Ranger Day with their annual vegetation survey on a restored area of blanket bog. The bog is now supporting a fantastic array of species, from crowberry, bog asphodel and sundew to a wide range of insects, arachnids, and moths. 🎶 We had a fantastic time at last weekend's HebCelt Festival in Stornoway. It was the tenth year Lewis Wind Power – developer of the Stornoway Wind Farm (a 50:50 joint venture with ESB) – has supported HebCelt. And there were some brilliant acts performing on the Islands Stage, which we were proud to sponsor once again. Pictured are the HebCelt team with Lewis Wind Power's Darren Cuming; David Morrison of Lewis Wind Power with the hamper winner; and some of the amazing performers at this year's festival. Thanks to the organisers for putting on another excellent festival. #HebCelt2025 #CommunitySupport #StornowayWindFarm #RenewableEnergy #LocalInvestment

We were in Cornwall last week hosting two consultation events for our proposed Viverdon Down solar farm in the east of the region. It was great to speak to members of the local community about the community and ecological benefits of the scheme. Solar farms, such as Viverdon Down, can provide a significant amount of biodiversity net gain, helping to create new habitats and improve the local environment. Thanks to all those who came to meet the team – we appreciate you taking the time to learn more about the project. Any feedback gathered from stakeholders and the wider community will be used to develop the final design of the solar farm. It's a momentous day for our NnG Offshore Wind farm in Scotland, as we celebrate this 450MW site becoming fully operational today 🎉 NnG – the UK's newest offshore wind farm – is a 50:50 joint venture between us and ESB. Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, travelled out to see the site firsthand. He also visited Eyemouth – the site of NnG's Operations and Maintenance base – to meet with local people working on the project and other members of the local community. Our CEO Matthieu Hue co-chaired the first meeting of the Onshore Wind Council last week with Michael Shanks MP and Minister for Energy. It was a productive meeting and we look forward to helping to deliver on the actions laid out in the Onshore Wind Taskforce strategy. #AcceleratingCleanEnergy #OnshoreWind
The Onshore Wind Council has had its first meeting! Delighted to be working with such experienced people from across industry, trade unions, community groups and devolved governments to drive forward our ambition for one of the cheapest and fastest to build sources of power we have. We lifted the onshore wind ban in England within 72 hours and set up the original Onshore Wind Taskforce to identify the key actions holding back future deployment. The finished strategy, with over 40 actions is what we are now determined to deliver on. Huge thanks to everyone who is part of this work - I know it is over and above the day job and the insights, challenge and experience is appreciated.
