About us

SSE Renewables is a leading developer and operator of renewable energy generation, headquartered in the UK and Ireland, with a growing presence internationally. Part of the FTSE-listed SSE plc, we're taking action as part of SSE's Net Zero Acceleration Programme (NZAP) to increase our installed renewable energy capacity to 9GW by 2027, and over 16GW by 2032. We have an operational portfolio of around 4.5GW of installed onshore wind, offshore wind and hydro generation capacity, with a secured future project pipeline of almost 15GW in development. We're also pursuing a further pipeline of over 13GW of additional prospective sites under development. Our operational portfolio comprises nearly 2GW of onshore wind capacity, more than 1GW of offshore wind capacity, and almost 1.5GW of flexible hydro power and pumped storage capacity. These generation assets produce around 10TWh of renewable power each year. We know offshore wind will be the backbone of a net zero power system so we are building the world's largest offshore wind farm, the 3.6GW Dogger Bank project in the North Sea and, in October 2023, we completed the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, the 1.1GW Seagreen project off the Scottish coast. We're a team of around 1,800 renewable energy professionals based across the UK and Ireland, Continental Europe, and Japan, all committed to delivering the green energy the world needs now and in the future. We've honed our skills through over 15 years of delivering world-leading projects with expertise in project design and optimisation, consenting and stakeholder engagement, financing, procurement, construction, and operations.

The decision by The Scottish Government to grant consent for the offshore array of Berwick Bank Wind Farm is hugely welcome. This marks the last major consent necessary for this ground-breaking project to move forward. I’m very proud we’ve reached this milestone in the project’s development. Our team at SSE Renewables has developed a fantastic project which will boost Scotland’s operational renewable electricity capacity by nearly 25% and that’s down to more than a decade of meticulous development and design work by our team. Berwick Bank Wind Farm is a truly consequential project. At more than 4GW, Berwick Bank has the potential to play a pivotal role in meeting the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 mission, as well as Scotland’s climate and decarbonisation goals. Berwick Bank has the potential to rapidly scale up Scotland’s operational renewable energy capacity and accelerate the delivery of homegrown, affordable and secure clean energy to UK consumers. This is a major step forward for Scotland, for the UK, and for the clean energy transition. #BerwickBank #OffshoreWind #CleanPower2030 #NetZeroScotland #GreenJobs #EnergySecurity #UKEnergyPolicy #SSERenewables

Berwick Bank Wind Farm has received development consent from The Scottish Government, clearing the final major approval to progress this game-changing renewable energy project. We spoke with Paul Cooley Director of Offshore Wind at SSE Renewables, who highlighted the immense scale and national and global significance of Berwick Bank: 🔹At 4.1GW, it would become the largest offshore wind farm in the world if fully delivered, capable of powering over six million homes annually 🔹 It would be expected to over £8billion in economic value to the UK and create around 9,300 UK jobs at peak construction, including 4,650 in Scotland 🔹 It could boost Scotland’s operational renewable electricity capacity by nearly 25%, accelerating the journey to net zero by 2045 Paul described it as: “A fantastic achievement not just for SSE, but for Scotland – and for our collective effort to tackle climate change.”   Watch the video below to find out more.

  • Yesterday, SSE Renewables was proud to take part in the Government Industry Forum on Offshore Wind - a gathering of key stakeholders focused on accelerating the development of a successful offshore wind sector in Ireland.   We welcomed the constructive dialogue and were encouraged by the shared commitment to overcoming barriers across planning, grid and port infrastructure to ensure delivery of vital Phase 1 projects like Arklow Bank Wind Park 2.   Thank you to Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Minister Darragh O'Brien TD and Minister Timmy Dooley for convening this important forum. Offshore wind is central to delivering a secure and sustainable energy future for Ireland, and we’re ready to play our part.

Ireland’s large maritime area and proximity to European and UK energy markets means we have enormous potential for offshore renewable energy. Ultimately, our shared aim is to replace the use of fossil fuels with clean renewable energy, harnessed from our own abundant resources.   The offshore wind sector will provide new jobs, new economic and social opportunities and a more resilient, secure and sustainable energy system for future generations.    We have made real progress in recent years, but we know that many challenges remain. We must acknowledge them honestly and work together to expedite the development of a sector that will be central to Ireland’s economic and energy future.   Today’s event is a key part of our efforts to engage with and support the private and public sector voices that are crucial to delivering offshore wind projects. 📰: https://lnkd.in/eFwVE6VW

  • 🚨 Big news for the UK’s clean energy future. Today’s UK Government decision to maintain a national energy market provides strategically important reassurance for the UK’s renewables-led transition and our Clean Power 2030 goals. At SSE plc, we’ve consistently warned that zonal pricing would increase risk and cost—undermining investment in critical Scottish renewables and jeopardising offshore wind targets. This clarity is especially vital ahead of Allocation Round 7 (AR7) of the CfD scheme—one of the last real chances to secure the scale of investment needed to deliver affordable, homegrown clean energy. We now look forward to the UK Government finalising AR7 rules to ensure the most ambitious and competitive auction yet. #CleanPower2030 #OffshoreWind #EnergyTransition #CfD #NetZero #UKEnergy

📣 Zonal pricing update We welcome the UK Government’s decision to retain a national pricing system for wholesale electricity. This brings long-awaited clarity to energy suppliers and investors, protects consumers from higher bills, and reinforces the UK’s global leadership in renewables.🌍 This decision reaffirms the UK as a world-leading renewables market, enabling the efficient delivery of the homegrown energy the country needs.
