  • We're thrilled to celebrate Shreya from Rugby High School, the national winner of our Step into the NHS secondary school competition. Shreya's outstanding job advert for a dietitian stood out among entries from 2,500 students. Her innovative video submission featured a food basket, which she used to creatively explain both the role of a dietitian and how to become one. She clearly demonstrated the communication skills essential for a career in healthcare. What's particularly encouraging is how the competition has genuinely influenced Shreya's career aspirations. She told us: "The Step into the NHS competition has really inspired me to become a dietitian. It was great to learn more about the role, and it may be something I consider as a career when I am older!" This year's secondary school challenge asked students to create job adverts for any of the 350 careers available within the NHS. The competition helps in several ways: educating young people about the breadth of NHS opportunities, inspiring them to consider healthcare careers, and helping them develop essential transferable skills including creativity, teamwork, and research capabilities. This competition helps to give students hands-on experience of professional communication and career exploration. When young people can see themselves in NHS roles and understand the pathways to get there, we're building a stronger future workforce of NHS professionals. Shreya's entry, along with all regional winners and highly commended submissions, showcases the exceptional talent and enthusiasm of young people for NHS careers. • We're delighted to announce Freddie from Huddersfield Grammar School as the national winner of our Step into the NHS primary school competition. This year's competition saw over 2,500 students across England entering the competition. Students’ creativity was truly remarkable with songs and poems to podcasts, animations, and stories submitted, all exploring some of the 350 NHS roles. What makes this competition special is how it connects young people to real people in these NHS careers – through family connections, personal interests, and genuine curiosity about the roles that keep our health service running. Freddie's winning poster brilliantly brought to life three vital NHS careers : 👣podiatrist (inspired by his uncle's profession) 👩⚕️occupational therapist (his mum is currently training in this field) 🍳chef (reflecting his shared passion for cooking with his dad). The judges praised his entry as "visually striking" and were impressed by the detailed portrayal of each profession. Freddie's entry, alongside all regional winners and highly commended entries, can be seen on our online gallery > https://lnkd.in/etmh5_E #NHS #Education #Careers #PrimarySchools #Healthcare #Inspiration

It's been such a fantastic day being on the judging panel with Kath Evans and Joan Pons Laplana. We had the privilege of selecting the national primary schools #StepIntoTheNHS competitions winner from 7 regional winners. Please keep an eye out for the announcement of the winner by NHS Health Careers. They were all impressive submissions! Difficult to choose from. Great that a few of the children went for those professions that are not talked about much, professions where more people are needed. Thank you to the NHS Health Careers team & partners for the great work you do engage children and young people in understanding the varied careers within the NHS. Last year, we had the privilege of judging the secondary school competitions and you can find the winning entry here. https://lnkd.in/evQp8xix It's such a fantastic, and inspirational experience. You might want to try it, or other forms of volunteering. #WeAreTheNHS #OurNHSPeople #NHSCareers #WeAHPs #WorkforcePlanning Dan van Reysen NHS England NHS Health Careers
