About us
Barking and Dagenham is one of London's most exciting and fastest growing boroughs. The council is facing some huge challenges, but we also have the opportunity of a lifetime to grow the borough and our community. We’re 20 minutes from London and have space for 60,000 new homes. We’re building London’s first Youth Zone and are on track to house a new film studio in Dagenham, rivalling the likes of Pinewood and boosting our local economy. We also now have our very own university campus, thanks to Coventry University setting up CU London, offering flexible learning and affordable courses to residents who historically had no aspirations to go to university. Change is needed and it’s happening already. We’re investing in our physical infrastructure and in our community, providing what people need to be able to help themselves. We had an amazing session at Barking Town Hall with 36 Youth Forum members and the Mayor + Young Mayor! They asked brilliant questions about their concerns, climate, leadership, and what it takes to make a difference Everyone left inspired, and ready to work together on future projects, including some exciting fundraising ideas! 💛 Keep an eye out for the Young Mayor's future fundraisers, with their chosen charity of the year being Richard House Hospice! We're very grateful that the rain held off this morning for Her Worshipful the Mayor Cllr Princess Bright ACCA's Civic Parade and Service. It was great to see so many residents line the streets to wave us on through Barking town centre. A big thank you goes to our young people - the uniformed groups, the Dagenham Eagles and our Young Mayor, Raspreet Singh, for their involvement. A big thank you also goes to St Margaret's Church, Barking, for hosting the church service after the parade ❤️

We recently hosted a Film Enterprise Pitch Day, an exciting event dedicated to showcasing the creativity and talent of young filmmakers in the Borough. Pupils presented their film idea pitches to five distinguished judges, including Bankey Ojo (Award-Winning Composer for TV & Film), Jules Hardy (British TV Presenter), Daisy Ifama (South London Filmmaker & Director), Aleks Dimitrijevic (BFI Executive Producer), and Gavin Saville (Director/Producer & Founder of Wild Indie Sci-Fi & Fantasy Film Festival). Following the pitches, judges selected a primary school and a secondary school winner, whose film ideas have been professionally transformed into reality. The Films will be released next week! Stay tuned.

Today we proudly marked #SouthAsianHeritageMonth with a vibrant flag raising at Barking Town Hall. This year’s theme, Roots to Routes, inspired powerful speeches, poetry, singing & dance. Diversity is our strength, and learning from history shapes our future. ❤️ #SAHM2025

We were thrilled to welcome Joe Wicks to the borough to hold a fitness session to launch his brand-new animated series Activate at Ripple Primary School! This exciting, government-backed initiative aims to tackle inactivity among children through fun, 5-minute workouts - led by Joe as an animated character. The first episode is now live on his YouTube channel! Joe was joined by Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, as they met with local teachers, parents, and pupils to promote the importance of movement and wellbeing in young lives 💪🌟 Movement matters, let’s make staying active a fun and lasting part of every child’s day!

It was such an honour to welcome Joe Wicks MBE and The Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP to our school for the launch of Joe's brilliant new fitness programme for primary children, Activate. Despite their very busy schedules, both Joe and Wes were so very generous with their time, spending loads of it with the children and with Wes happy to take questions from our Pupil Parliamentarians. The media were there in force so do look the coverage on the television, the radio, in the print media and all over various social media platforms. And especially look out for our amazing Ripple children being interviewed for CBBC's Newsround, which should be available very soon so keep checking back here: https://lnkd.in/eCWn4rs4 The first episode of 'Activate' will be available on 15th July 2025 for free on The Body Coach YouTube channel, with further episodes released weekly over the holidays. The series promotes short bursts of movement through fun, accessible content that can be easily integrated into the children's day, whether at home, school, summer clubs or on the go - getting children moving over the summer and beyond. Each 5-minute episode features an animated Joe Wicks, alongside original characters known as the Activators, and upbeat music courtesy of Universal Music Group UK, who are the exclusive music partners. The brilliant animation by STUDIO AKA (of Hey Dugee fame) makes the every workout a spectacular, colourful, fun, high energy multisensory experience with the great exercise routines also matched to motivational music. Backed by the Department of Health & Social Care, Department for Education and Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Activate aims to help address inactivity among children by getting them moving and making fitness fun. The government will be backing the programme to fund a further ten episodes. Which is exactly the news that our Ripple Primary School children wanted to hear.
