We’re proud to support A Roadmap to Votes at 16 🗳️ - a report co-created with organisations, teachers, youth workers and young people to make Votes at 16 a success across the UK. Thank you to The Politics Project for pulling together all of our voices on this, hopefully soon to be, momentous change to our democracy.
We were honoured to be joined by MPs, members of the UK House of Lords, teachers, youth practitioners, young people and the Minister for Democracy, Rushanara A. MP, for the Launch of Democracy Classroom's #RoadmaptoVotesat16 in House of Commons last week 🤩 The recommendations in the Roadmap explore the best ways to support the effective implementation of #Votesat16. The resounding takeaway from the event was undoubtedly the importance of youth voice and engagement 💪 "It's over to you. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us and we are determined, as a government, to make sure your generation and future generations can live in a thriving and vibrant democracy in the decades ahead. I look forward to working with you, as we together, write the next chapter of our democracy - one centered on making sure that young people of our nation are heard and are able to shape their future" - Minister for Democracy, Rushanara Ali MP. Votes at 16 is a historic opportunity to redefine how young people see their role in society, and we look forward to working with the government to make it a success in the months and years ahead. Thank you to everyone who joined us for it and everyone who has supported and contributed to the Roadmap- this was a huge joint effort 👏 🌟 Backed by 40 organisations including: Association for Citizenship Teaching Association of Colleges Democracy Club Education Scotland I have a voice CIC My Life My Say National Union of Students (UK) National Youth Agency, Network of Regional Youth Work Units Youth Work Unit Yorkshire & the Humber CIO Shout Out UK The Politics Project UK Youth, Boys' and Girls' Club of Wales, Electoral Reform Society Fair Education Alliance mySociety, My Vote My Voice, National Association for Managers of Student Services Northern Ireland Youth Forum Partnership for Young London Politics In Action Scottish Youth Parliament The Economist Educational Foundation and Youth Focus North West (YFNW) 👉 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e5zzJjKP #RoadmaptoVotesat16 #Democracy #Youth #Education #YouthPolitics #UKPolitics #Westminster
