I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next with the Centre for Youth Voice as it is taken forward by the Network of Regional Youth Work Units. Eden Byrne and I reflected a little on what we learned through our earlier work at the Centre and had some thoughts on how we might understand (and ideally avoid!) 'tokenism' in youth voice practice. 📣 Applications are now OPEN! 📣 We are thrilled to announce that the Jack Petchey Foundation is now accepting new applications from youth organisations to host an intern on our next internship programme. We will part-fund up to 20 internships for one year in youth organisations across London and Essex. The Jack Petchey Internship Programme is designed to give young people a flying start in the youth sector and to help youth organisations increase the support they provide for young people in London and Essex. This will be the eighth cohort of our successful internship programme, which has so far supported over 170 young people into essential jobs in the youth sector. Greater London Authority would like to invite you to take part in a 90-minute focus group to share your views on young Londoners’ experience of looking for/finding their educational/professional pathway, and your ideas to make the system work better, to support the implementation of the pan-London Youth Guarantee Trailblazer programme.   One of the key objectives of the pan-London Youth Guarantee trailblazer is to develop and roll-out a new Youth Offer for London. The youth offer will aim to combine system-level interventions to enhance coordination and integration of services, with careful place-based tailoring of services and interventions that effectively identify young Londoners who are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET and can address their individual needs. The GLA is adopting a collaborative approach to the development of the youth offer itself, through stakeholder engagement in July and August and a co-design exercise with young people in September.    The focus group will take place on Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 14th August from 17:30 to 19:00. We were honoured to be joined by MPs, members of the UK House of Lords, teachers, youth practitioners, young people and the Minister for Democracy, Rushanara A. MP, for the Launch of Democracy Classroom's #RoadmaptoVotesat16 in House of Commons last week 🤩 The recommendations in the Roadmap explore the best ways to support the effective implementation of #Votesat16. The resounding takeaway from the event was undoubtedly the importance of youth voice and engagement 💪 "It's over to you. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us and we are determined, as a government, to make sure your generation and future generations can live in a thriving and vibrant democracy in the decades ahead. I look forward to working with you, as we together, write the next chapter of our democracy - one centered on making sure that young people of our nation are heard and are able to shape their future" - Minister for Democracy, Rushanara Ali MP. Votes at 16 is a historic opportunity to redefine how young people see their role in society, and we look forward to working with the government to make it a success in the months and years ahead. Youth programmes don’t just keep young Londoners busy: they offer hope, purpose and the tools to build a better future. This summer, thousands of young people will be able to access activities, meals and positive opportunities through my Holiday Hope program.

What does a truly just green transition look like — and who gets to shape it? Rethinking Green Transitions — is a youth-led peer research project in Islington that puts young people at the heart of local climate action. Led by Monika Milewska and Max Edgington at Islington Council, and Imogen Hamilton-Jones at LSE Cities, Partnership for Young London provided training and support to peer researchers in research methods and data analysis. 📊 A few of the key findings: ▶️ 70% of young people in our survey want more involvement in local decisions — but 38% don’t know how. ▶️ 90% of survey respondents believe the green transition must address the everyday realities of economic and social inequality. ▶️ Young people are keen to cycle more, but concerns around bike theft remain one of the most significant barriers. ▶️ Safety emerged as a key issue, with “unsafe” being the second most frequently reported feeling when young people were asked about walking in Islington’s streets and green spaces.
