Construction

We’re one of the largest family-owned construction, infrastructure and support services businesses in the UK.

About us

We’re one of the largest family-owned construction, infrastructure and support services businesses in the UK, and we apply the same principles to every aspect of our business today that we did over fifty years ago when Bill Robertson began with his joinery firm in Elgin. Over the years our sustainable growth has enabled us to invest in our business, the future of people and communities, and to deliver on major projects, housing schemes and facilities management for customers nationally. We have the ability to accept big challenges, and build positive, mutually beneficial partner relationships. At the same time we think locally, working with stakeholders and the supply chain to deliver services and infrastructure that will stand the test of time. Today we employ over 3,200 talented people across a broad range of roles including construction, timber engineering, facilities management, capital projects, property development, regeneration, civil engineering, building services and housebuilding. Ultimately, our approach is about making progress safely towards a sustainable future. It’s the Robertson Way. #WeAreTeamRobertson

  • Our purpose is to assure a sustainable future for our people, partners and the planet. A key part of this is reducing our emissions and using sustainable construction practices wherever possible. Today, we partnered with our supply chain member GAP Group Limited to host a Sustainable Plant Event at our Glasgow office for employees. It provided a great opportunity to showcase greener tools and plant in action, hear expert insights, and learn more about equipment that can help us continue to reduce operational carbon on the high-quality projects we deliver. Across our sites, we already use low-emission HVO fuel for plant, power our projects with 100% renewable energy tariffs, and are continuing to adopt more sustainable equipment. We look forward to building on this progress and working with our supply chain partners and customers to decarbonise site operations. #construction #sustainability #supplychain #netzero #carbon #GAPsnap

Good to see the first-year data on Riverside Primary confirming that it is working exactly as intended. Robertson Construction Tayside led the design team in progressing the school to meet Passivhaus standards, achieved through early-stage collaboration and close attention to key details including building form and orientation, façade design, fabric, materials and junctions. We brought a dedicated in-house Passivhaus champion into the team to strengthen our capability and ensure the project met the rigorous efficiency criteria. Since then we’ve delivered further Passivhaus schools and continue to support councils in designing and constructing low-energy learning environments.

  • We have been working closely with Dundee City Council for a number of years and continue to be a trusted delivery partner of choice. However, our working relationship goes beyond just delivering high-quality projects, it’s also about the lasting legacy that we leave in the local community. The £100m Drumgeith Community Campus project is a powerful example of social impact in action, and as our CEO Elliot Robertson says: “Drumgeith Community Campus is an outstanding facility which is set to benefit the wider community when it opens later this year, but the benefits of the project are already being felt.” To date, over £57m has been retained within the local economy through using local subcontractors and suppliers, representing 76% of the total subcontract project spend. The project has created 40 employment opportunities, 11 new apprenticeships, and supported 38 existing apprentices. More than 70% of the workforce also come from within a 40-mile radius of the site. Elliot adds: “From creating jobs and apprenticeships to supporting young people into training and working with local suppliers, community wealth building is an intrinsic part of what we do, and we are committed to supporting the people and places where we operate.” Read more about the benefits being delivered at https://lnkd.in/efAK_Mjn Video: Kieran, an apprentice joiner at one of our subcontractors WBS Keillor Ltd, is benefiting from this local focus. • This week marked a major milestone in the construction of Mowat Gardens, a £20m Extra Care development in Cleckheaton for Housing 21, as the project reached its highest point.   To celebrate the progress, representatives from Robertson Construction Yorkshire & East Midlands, Housing 21, Kirklees Council and the wider project team gathered on site for a topping out ceremony.   Our CEO Elliot Robertson commented: “This development will provide high-quality, accessible homes with the care and support that enable people to maintain their independence. Working closely with Housing 21 and Kirklees Council, we are delivering an Extra Care scheme that responds directly to local needs and supports wellbeing in the community.”   Due to open in summer 2026, Mowat Gardens will include 61 one-bedroom and 19 two-bedroom apartments for rent by people aged 55 and over. Residents will also benefit from a range of shared facilities, including a communal lounge, activity room, laundry, gardens and guest room. Additional amenities such as a café and hair salon will be open to the local community.   Read more about the project’s progress at https://lnkd.in/eMg6QBKu   Brewster Bye Architects | TSA Riley | MJM Consulting Engineers Ltd | Artec Fire | SJG Temporary Works Ltd | NOVA Acoustics Ltd   #construction #communiy #care #commercial

Robertson Construction Central East has completed the second and final phase of The McEwan in Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge for build-to-rent (BTR) developer and operator Moda. This latest phase adds 139 homes to the 337 one to three-bedroom apartments already delivered by Robertson for Moda at the site in 2022. Transforming a former brownfield location into a thriving city neighbourhood, The McEwan combines health-focused living with long-term environmental and social value. The earlier phase achieved a European first with three-star Fitwel accreditation, and this final stage continues that legacy. Our CEO, Elliot Robertson, says: “This project gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in operating safely in complex, busy environments while not compromising the quality standards that Robertson is known for. “It is also essential that as we look to the future that we see the value that BTR has in helping address the housing emergency being faced in Scotland. I fully support the recommendations being made by the Housing Investment Taskforce, to meet the shortage challenges and to unlock new and existing investment, both public and private.” For more on our work at The McEwan, go to https://lnkd.in/eBR4HbAe #BuildToRent #UrbanRegeneration #SustainableDevelopment #Construction Apache Capital | Harrison Street | NFU Mutual | Fitwel Certification System | CDA | FES Group | Goodson Associates | Henderson Warnock Engineers | ATS | CBA | OOBE

  • We’ve partnered with Aberdeen Science Centre to create the Mini Construction Zone – a new hands-on space where young visitors can explore the world of construction through play and role-based learning. Located within the centre’s popular Make It Zone, the activity space is designed to introduce children to STEM in a fun and accessible way. With foam bricks, toy tools, hi-vis vests and hard hats, they can try their hand at building while learning how the built environment takes shape. As sponsor of the zone, we’re helping create a space that connects industry with education. The partnership reflects our wider commitment to social impact and encouraging future careers in construction. The restoration and refurbishment of Bolton Central Library was celebrated last week as the £4.4m project picked up the prize for Best Regeneration and Conservation at the North West Regional Construction Awards. In a strong field, judges were unanimous in their decision, describing the work – led by Robertson Construction North West on behalf of Clear Futures through its strategic partnership for Bolton Council – as a ‘brilliant project’ with clear community impact. Originally built in the 1930s, the Grade II listed building has been carefully restored to its former glory as well as refurbishing it for modern use, providing new creative and social spaces. Since completion, the library service has already seen a dramatic increase in usage with new and old visitors attracted from a wide demographic. Judges were impressed at how the project was completed whilst the library remained open and how an effective engagement strategy ensured that it ‘met stakeholder needs and managed challenges and surprises along the way.’ Congratulations to everyone involved. Having won the regional award, the project will now go on to the National Constructing Excellence Awards this November. The first part of the £50m redevelopment of Aberdeen beach was officially opened today with the unveiling of the new-look Broadhill. The well-known local landmark has been revitalised with new access steps, footpaths, viewpoints, drystone walls, timber and concrete seating, and landscaping across five hectares. Completed in time for people to enjoy as a vantage point for the forthcoming Tall Ships Aberdeen, Broadhill is now open to the public. Marking the occasion with a cup of tea and a traditional Aberdeen ‘rowie’, the Lord Provost was joined by representatives from Robertson Construction Eastern, Aberdeen City Council - City Development & Regeneration and hub North Scotland Limited. Our CEO Elliot Robertson commented: “Being the trusted delivery partner, we understand the importance of bringing the vision of Aberdeen City Council and the local community to life.    “Working closely with hub North Scotland and the Council, significant progress is being made in the creation of well-designed, connected spaces which will be home to high-quality facilities. The vision to redevelop the beach will benefit the community through the provision of public realm spaces that will inspire wellbeing and activity and contribute to the local and regional economy.” Read more about the wider transformation at https://lnkd.in/eeY8aGiR Currie & Brown | Goodson Associates | Wallace Whittle | DAM Geotechnical Services | Keppie Design | OPEN (now SLR) | WM Donald | FES Group | BSB STEEL WORKS | OmniSurveys#construction #community #transformation

  • “I feel like Charlie entering the Chocolate Factory.” “I’m really excited for next term.” “I’m lost for words.” These were just some of the reactions from pupils during their first look at the new Mynydd Isa Campus before it opened its doors last month. The 1,300-pupil campus was delivered by Robertson Construction North West for Flintshire County Council through the Welsh Education Partnership Company, using the Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government’s Mutual Investment Model. Featuring state-of-the-art facilities, the building is net zero in operation and marks a significant step forward for sustainable building in Wales. We will continue to maintain the campus through Robertson Facilities Management and look forward to remaining part of the community for many years to come.
