This week, I’ve been deeply engaged in advancing best practices in Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES). We’re demonstrating DSMES at its best by developing case studies and practical examples that empower diabetes care and education specialist to become trusted partners in the ongoing journey of those living with diabetes. There are four critical times to provide DSMES: 1️⃣ At diagnosis 2️⃣ As part of annual assessment of needs 3️⃣ When complicating factors arise 4️⃣ During transitions in care Each of these moments is an opportunity to meet people where they are, and to offer guidance, tools, and support that make a lasting impact. I also want to take a moment to celebrate the American Diabetes Association Professional Education Team, especially Zeina A. for her thoughtful collaboration. Together, we’re creating interactive, patient-centered education modules that equip Diabetes Care and Education Specialists with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive—and to help people with diabetes live their best lives. Empowerment through education changes outcomes. And partnership makes that possible. And big thanks to the Science & Health Care team members who traveled to these meetings… and took a stab at bowling! We all scored at least double digits, so I’d consider it a success!
