Following the SVI Board’s decision to formally recognise the social cost of our carbon emissions, CEO Ben Carpenter reflects on what it means to include that liability in our financial accounts, and why we hope others will do the same. 🧾 It’s about aligning with legal duties. 📊 It’s about improving decision-making. 🌍 It’s about responding to global calls to internalise externalities – most recently via the #FfD4 Outcome Document. How can we honour the lived experiences of women and children impacted by family violence, including First Nations peoples, while upholding principles of rigorous evaluation? Join SIMNA Victoria at their upcoming webinar with the team that received the 2024 SIMNA Award for Innovative Design in Social Impact Measurement for their work, ‘Flexibility in evaluation with culturally diverse victim-survivors of family violence: going beyond “doing no harm”’. 🖥️ Event: Balancing Rigour and Respect: Lessons from a Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Program Pilot Evaluation 📅 When: Thursday 31 July, 12:00-1:30 PM AEDT 🎟️ Tickets: Free for SIMNA members, $15 for non-members 🎙️ Speakers: Ellie Taylor, Denika Thomas, Eliza de Vet, PhD, Lenice Husband, Helen Xu Between March 2022 and March 2024, The Salvation Army Australia's Carinya Women and Children’s Service and Women Illawarra delivered a therapeutic arts-based pilot program designed to support healing for women and child victim-survivors of family violence. While the program itself was deeply relational and culturally responsive, the evaluation process raised critical questions about how we conduct research in trauma-saturated spaces. This webinar explores the trauma-informed, strengths-based evaluation of the program, co-designed and implemented by Carinya staff and researchers from The Salvation Army and guided by a Cultural Advisory Group (CAG). The CAG played a pivotal role in shaping culturally safe methodologies that respected the voices of First Nations and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse participants, and recognised children as victim-survivors in their own right. Keen to learn more about the Most Significant Change technique? Join our partner Clear Horizon for this free webinar next week. More details and tickets below 👇
🙋 Free webinar: Join us for a deep dive into our favourite technique, The Most Significant Change method (MSC). This session features Dr. Jess Dart, co-author of the #MostSignificantChange user guide (co-authored with Rick Davies, translated into 12 languages and adopted by changemakers worldwide) and Kylie Reeves, Communications Manager for the Predator Free Wellington program. The session will be moderated by Sophie Pinwill, an experienced evaluator and lead mentor in our MSC course. Together, they will sit down for an insightful conversation about how they've applied #MSC in their work and what they've learned. We’ll explore how to design and run MSC effectively, address concerns about bias, credibility and practicality, and help you weigh up whether it’s the right fit for your context. You’ll hear a practical example of MSC in action, learn what worked well (and what didn’t), and come away with practical ideas and guidance for building support within your organisation. If you’ve been thinking about adopting MSC but need clarity, reassurance or inspiration, this is the perfect place to start. 📅 Wednesday 23 July ⏰ 12:00 - 1:00 pm (AEST) 👉 Register now for the 'From Story to Impact: Understanding Most Significant Change' webinar here: https://lnkd.in/gHAn2n-e Australian Evaluation Society SIMNA #QualitativeData #Evaluation #MEL #ClearHorizon

Great to see SIMNA Co-Chair, Simon Faivel, featured in The Fifth Estate’s latest piece, ‘Social value – why it’s good business’. Simon’s insights reinforce the importance of embedding social value into business strategy. Kudos to Australian Unity for demonstrating how purpose-driven initiatives can deliver both community impact and commercial success. Read the full article below. #socialvalue #wellbeing #community #business
💚🗞️✏️ Chuffed to have been included alongside Simon Faivel in The Fifth Estate article, “Social value – why it’s good business,” which delves into the growing importance of social value and wellbeing in business. Integrating wellbeing isn’t just a moral imperative—it makes solid business sense, enhancing community wellbeing AND driving sustainable economic outcomes. At Australian Unity, we’ve worked with Deakin University on the Australian Unity Wellbeing Index and Social Ventures Australia on our Community & Social Value framework to highlight and measure social impact opportunities. We want to see a broader industry shift towards similar efforts to measure and articulate business impacts. A big thank you to The Fifth Estate for shedding light on #wellbeing and to all the professionals pushing the envelope in this space!! #Wellbeing #SocialValue #Sustainability #CommunityImpact #TheFifthEstate
