  • This morning, a group of Sydney Water employees had the privilege of volunteering as job mentors for professionally skilled migrants and refugees through the City East Mentor Program. Together, we worked on resumes and interview preparation, sharing our experiences and insights about the Australian workplace. It was a chance to give back - but in truth, we walked away with just as much, if not more. 🙏🌍🤝 The courage, resilience and determination of each participant reminded us of the strength it takes to start over in a new country and continue a career. It was a humbling experience and an honour to be part of their journey. We’re cheering all of you on and wishing you all the best as you advance your careers in Australia. A heartfelt thank you to all our Sydney Water mentors, to Margaret Teed from City East Mentor Program, and to Aoife Kearns from our DEI team who worked in collaboration with Lorena M. and Suzann Cooper from our Talent Operations team for bringing this meaningful day to life. We’re proud to support programs that build opportunity, connection and inclusion across our communities. #volunteering #cityeastmentorprogram #careersupport #diversityandinclusion #sydneywater

  • We’re excited to share a progress update on the $1.2 billion Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre (AWRC) taking shape at Kemps Creek 💧 A newly completed on-site solar farm will supply up to 50% of the AWRC’s energy needs 🔌 dramatically reducing reliance on external power sources. Site electrification is also complete⚡️with power now officially switched on across the AWRC, marking the project’s transition from early-stage construction to commissioning, in preparation for operations in 2026. The AWRC will be one of the most advanced wastewater recovery facilities in the Southern Hemisphere and will treat up to 35 megalitres of wastewater (the equivalent of 14 Olympic swimming pools) each day as part of Stage 1. The plant has been provisioned to enable a future capacity increase as part of Stage 2, which will enable treatment of 70 megalitres of wastewater every day. Delivered in partnership with John Holland, this project marks our largest infrastructure investment in Western Sydney, positioning the region for sustainable growth and long-term water security. • Meet Thomas 👋 a finance graduate currently working in our Regulatory Finance and Pricing team. Recently, Thomas’ team have been working on Sydney Water’s 2025-2030 Price Proposal to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART). He contributed by creating a pricing calculator to help non-residential customers understand the impact of new trade waste prices. Thomas says it’s been fulfilling to apply his economic and financial skills to address real-world challenges. “My role's dynamic and impactful nature has been rewarding, especially through projects like the IPART Price Proposal,” Thomas says. “Developing the non-residential pricing calculator not only enhanced my technical abilities, but directly benefited our customers.” Thomas joined Sydney Water at the start of the year through our graduate program, which he says has provided valuable support and helped him make a smooth transition into the organisation. “It’s been incredibly motivating and warming to be part of a cohort of people who are all starting their careers at the same time. We can share our learnings and discuss our aspirations within the business.” Like Thomas, want to make waves in your career through our award-winning grad program? • We’re issuing an SOS to Sydneysiders: Save Our Sinks! Up to $27 million is spent each year to manage and clear up to 20,000 network blockages caused by people putting the wrong things down the drain. These include things like cooking oil, food scraps, milk, coffee grinds, chemicals and paint. Between July 2024 and April 2025, we spent almost $12 million to remove 11,805 chokes, with the cost doubling when factoring in the cost of clean-up operations and repairs to the wastewater network. Many people don’t think twice about pouring kitchen waste down the sink, but the reality is: fats, oils, greases and even milk are a significant threat to our wastewater network. This campaign highlights the simple things our customers can do to avoid expensive plumbing bills and protect the environment by remembering to ‘Save Our Sinks’ by putting only water, detergent and soap down the drain. • #FunFactFriday: Did you know that the St Marys Advanced Water Treatment Plant is one of the largest water recycling facilities in Australia? ♻️💧 It receives tertiary-treated wastewater from our Penrith, St Marys and Quakers Hill plants - and uses reverse osmosis to produce up to 50 million litres of highly treated recycled water every day. St Marys AWRP supplies recycled water to help maintain the flow of the Hawkesbury-Nepean River and by reducing nutrients helps protect the river’s health. The recycled water helps us to save 18 billion litres of drinking water each year, that up until recently, was released from Warragamba Dam to assist river health. This leaves more water in the dam for drinking🚰 #stmarys #waterrecycling #recycledwater #wastewater #environment #waterindustry #sydney #sydneywater
