Today, we proudly announce a landmark step toward a sustainable future. As the first major consumer goods company in the U.K. to commit significantly to green hydrogen, we’re investing a combined £125 million (approximately $170 million) in partnership with Carlton Power Limited and HYRO (a joint venture between Octopus Energy Generation and RES). This investment will bring green hydrogen facilities to our production plants in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, and Northfleet, Kent, where we produce nearly one billion Andrex toilet rolls and more than 150 million boxes of Kleenex tissues annually. Starting in 2027, we expect a 50% reduction in natural gas consumption across our U.K. production lines, significantly lowering our carbon emissions. Supported by the U.K. Government’s Hydrogen Production Business Model and Net Zero Hydrogen Fund, these projects will replace fossil-fuel natural gas with hydrogen and cut emissions by 28,500 tonnes CO2 annually - equivalent to removing 20,000 petrol cars from the road yearly. This initiative underscores our commitment to decarbonizing tissue production and leading the way in sustainable manufacturing. Thank you to everyone involved at Kimberly-Clark to make this happen. Together, we’re shaping a greener future and continuing to deliver on our purpose, #BetterCareForABetterWorld. The UK’s first commercial-scale green hydrogen projects have signed contracts as part of our Hydrogen Allocation Round, unlocking over 700 jobs and powering sectors from transport to manufacturing. Projects include: 💧 The HyMarnham Power project in Newark, Nottinghamshire which is transforming the old High Marnham coal-fired power station into a clean energy hub by using hydrogen to decarbonise waste disposal operations. 💧 ScottishPower's Cromarty Hydrogen Project in Northeast Scotland, whose 11MW electrolyser – a device that uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen – will power local industrial users, including distilleries. Together, these projects are expected t to bring in over £400 million of private capital investment which has been committed between 2024 and 2026 – driving economic growth and British innovation through the Plan for Change. 📈 🔗 More: https://lnkd.in/eCAfuRcU
