Every Home Matters isn’t just our strapline at Fortem – it drives us to deliver exceptional property solutions whilst demonstrating genuine care for every community we work in. Today we are proud to shine our employee spotlight on two of our trades working at our Orbit Group branch.🌟 Simon Peach, Plasterer and Craig Taylor, Carpenter/Multi Trade have both been commended for their fantastic workmanship by a resident who received a visit from each trade, sharing: "I was at my son’s house to wait in for his repairs as he finds it hard having people in his flat. Our first visit was by Simon to plaster a bedroom wall, he was fantastic as he just sprung into place ad did the kitchen and bedroom going above and beyond, very chatty, friendly and had empathy for my son, fantastic thank you Simon.” I was waiting at home for four doors to be replaced and in came Craig, he was very efficient. He completed the doors, checked the other doors then adjusted them too and changed and fitted a PVC box in the boiler cupboard. He went above and beyond, very caring, empathetic and even stopped to have a chat to my son which made him feel at ease. Thank you Craig.” Feedback like this is a powerful reminder that the quality of service isn’t just measured by results, but by the way we treat people; with care and respect. Thank you Simon and Craig for your hard work and truly embodying all we stand for at Fortem. 👏 #EmployeeSpotlight #EveryHomeMatters #SocialHousingExperts

Our responsibility goes beyond just our property solutions. At Fortem, we are committed to providing genuine care for the communities we serve. It’s our people who bring that commitment to life every day and this week we are proud to shine our employee spotlight on two Carpenter/Multiskilled trades working on our Birmingham City Council contract. 🌟 Nigel Fox and David Lyons have been commended for their compassion following a recent encounter. Whilst out working, Nigel and David noticed a member of the public in visible distress and did not hesitate to stop, help and wait with the gentleman until he received the assistance that he needed. Their calm response made a real difference, with the gentlemen taking the time to reach out to us personally following the incident to express his gratitude for the support they gave him during a difficult time. A huge well done to Nigel and David for going above and beyond to help in a time of need. Your actions reflect all that we stand for at Fortem and we are proud to have you on the team 👏🏽 #EmployeeSpotlight #EveryHomeMatters

We were thrilled to welcome members of the Crisis Birmingham Skylight to our training centre, offering them the chance to learn practical painting and decorating skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. By sharing practical skills, we aim to build confidence, unlock potential, and deliver meaningful impact for the communities we serve. 💙 To us, Every Home Matters, and that is why we do what we do. Teaching practical skills that can be taken home and used in daily life is just one of the many ways we strive to make a real difference. We were really impressed with enthusiasm and great work from the members that attended the session. A huge well done to all involved! 👏🏽 💡To find out more about how we’re helping people build skills for life, visit https://lnkd.in/eybVyjm2 #EveryHomeMatters #BuildingBetterLives
Helping our members find homes is a priority but it's equally important to ensure they can sustain their tenancies. So we teach skills such as budgeting and how to deal with landlords. We also equip people with practical skills such as cookery and DIY. Sometimes members can even develop those skills into careers. Fortem Solutions provides repairs, maintenance and improvement works for around 22,500 homes in South Birmingham on behalf of Birmingham City Council. Last month they kindly opened the doors of their training centre in Stratford-Upon-Avon to six Crisis members from our Birmingham Skylight for a full day of hands-on training in Painting & Decorating. One of our Strengths & Assets Coaches, Steve, shared a bit about the experience: “Members were guided through every step of surface preparation and shown how to paint ceilings, walls, doors and woodwork using a range of tools. After lunch, they learned how to measure, cut and hang wallpaper – and gave it a proper go!” The training was led by expert tutors Becky and Sarah, who created a warm and encouraging space to try new skills. Everyone took part in the ‘have-a-go’ sessions and left with a certificate of attendance in Painting & Decorating – and a real sense of achievement. Feedback was brilliant, with many members saying they’re already planning to use what they learned at home. 💪🏽🏡

With demand for skilled workers in the construction sector at an all time high, we are addressing workforce shortages and supporting local employment in Birmingham through our award-winning apprenticeship programme. As a national business with long-term social housing contracts that can span more than a decade, we are committed to leaving a lasting legacy in the communities we serve and local employment plays a significant role in this. Since 2002, Fortem has successfully trained over 350 apprentices, equipping them with valuable skills across trade professions, office roles, and specialist fields, with 27 local apprentices and two management trainees currently working on our Birmingham City Council contract. Birmingham based Kyle Allen, joined Fortem in 2022 as a Bricklaying Apprentice. He said: “I am most proud of the extent to which I have improved my skills since progressing in my apprenticeship. I enjoy learning new skills from other experienced members of the team and it has given me the independence to work confidently on my own.” We’re proud to be growing our own talent and preparing workers for the evolving demands of the housing sector. Over the next four years, we’ll be recruiting over 100 apprentices and trainees nationally, with a strong focus on green skills and retrofit. ➡️ Want to learn more about partnering with us to support local employment?
