Civic and Social Organizations

Creating a shark-free pond for social value. 🚫🦈 Evidence the difference you're making in the world - properly.

About us

Our mission: Revolutionise social value reporting We know how hard it can be to capture meaningful data and accurately measure the difference you’re making in people’s lives. Traditionally, you’ll see proprietary standards that tuck away valuable public data, research and helpful resources behind expensive paywalls. Well, that doesn’t sit right with us. We, as a group of social value practitioners (Impact Reporting, State of Life and PRD), decided to come together and build a better alternative. One that’s open to all, freely available, and transparent about how values are being sourced or generated. One that offers a user-friendly entry point, as well as a pathway to more complex, precise measurement practices for those who want it. One that prioritises the experience and testimony of people as a fundamental pillar for understanding impact in a more meaningful way. Above all, one that’s not barricaded behind paywalls, yet is capable of withstanding the most rigorous scrutiny. Introducing MeasureUp: Always accessible. Transparent and reliable. Forever free.

I’m thrilled to share that the first academic journal publication on the US Social Value Bank is now live! This marks a key step forward in valuing subjective well-being in the U.S., using U.S.-based data and a U.S.-proposed WELLBY—aligned with the latest Green Book Treasury Guidance. 📄 Read it here Open Access! https://lnkd.in/gH-Z_8KT This work would not have been possible without the many of you who offered support through foundational research, methodological guidance, early reviews, and thoughtful feedback. Tim Goodspeed and I have more in the works, but for now, we’re proud to be part of the growing conversation on valuing well-being. In the US, there are a lot of limitations to overcome to measuring and valuing well-being. This is a beginning. But we hope it contributes meaningfully to your work and the broader effort to integrate well-being into decision-making.

  • Our MeasureUp advisory group came together for our first in-person meeting in beautiful Manchester today! Having only launched 8 months ago, MeasureUp was started when some of these same folks who sat around a table and asked, “Why not make a change and why not start now?” The idea of democracising social value and making a more accessible and open wellbeing valuation framework was born. It was exciting to spend the day not just sharing updates on what’s coming soon (spoiler alert: A LOT) but also get members to knowledge share. Our advisory group is completely voluntary so having those travel from so far and donate their time means the world to us. Plus, we do love to have a good laugh 😆 Thank you Ben Carpenter, Nadir Sultan, Will Watt, Nicola Lynch, Paul Vicario, Joe Came, Siân Rebourg (MICRS), Barney Cringle, Rachael Crowe, Charlotte Österman, Catherine Manning Matt Haworth, Fatma Kübra Höke, Nilofer Khalifa, Ed Cox 🤍 Curious how you can support / join the fun? Send us an email at hello@measure-up.org and we’re happy to have a chat!

  • We've been busy here expanding the environmental values available in MeasureUp, giving our users more comprehensive, government-backed data to support everything from sustainability reports to social value business cases. 🔍 What’s new? In the coming weeks, we'll be publishing more proxy values across: - GHG Emissions (via DESNZ Conversion Factors) - Waste Management (via Carbon WARM) - Habitat Conservation and Pollution Control (via Defra’s ENCA Databook) ✅ Aligned with: - HM Treasury’s Green Book - UK SECR Reporting - The Greenhouse Gas Protocol Our values will now be grouped into four clear categories, making it easier for users to take evidence-based environmental action. Stay tuned and be sure to sign up for our newsletter to hear first about when these new values are released! 📖 Read the update: https://lnkd.in/eyavScdN #Sustainability #SocialValue #EnvironmentalImpact #CarbonAccounting #GHG #MeasureUp #GreenBook #SECR #NaturePositive #ImpactMeasurement

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴? Our WELLBY approach could, so far, only be applied to children aged 10+. 𝗠𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲 Isaac Parkes 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗘𝗣 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖-𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗕𝗬 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝟭𝟬. The 𝗖-𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗕𝗬 is based on the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Here is an 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 how it works:   • The 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 from SDQ to life satisfaction is -𝟬.𝟭𝟰𝟲.   • 𝗦𝗼, 𝗶𝗳 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗗𝗤 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗯𝘆, 𝘀𝗮𝘆, 𝟮 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 -𝟮 * -𝟬.𝟭𝟰𝟲 = 𝟬.𝟮𝟵𝟮 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲-𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 (𝗼𝗿 𝗖-𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗕𝗬𝘀).   • The 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 of this increase is 0.292 * GBP 15,920 = 𝗚𝗕𝗣 𝟰,𝟲𝟰𝟵, whereby GBP 15,920 is the monetary value of a WELLBY (in 2023 prices) as per HM Treasury's Green Book in the UK. Isaac's paper makes a lot of other useful 𝘀𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀, so it is a very good read - well done. I am attaching the C-WELLBY paper in the first comment and an overview paper showing our WELLBY approach more generally in the second.
