Well done to everyone involved in LSE’s social impact hackathon! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
First Linkedin post: We won! 🌟 I am proud to announce that our team just won first place for our pitch at the Summer Social Impact Hackathon, a consultancy challenge organised by LSE Careers alongside expert partners from Impact Reporting! Special shoutout to my team members Tianze Ye, Laura Unás Betancourt, Zahra Valika, Zara D., Jesse Vince, and Tin Sum Ying. For the past two weeks, we have been scheduling meetings to create a detailed report and pitch to present to panelists. Our aim was to ask for their support to address major barriers to an inclusive future of work for neurodivergent individuals. Without my team’s genuine passion for diverse inclusivity and commitment to enacting real-world social change, this achievement would not have been possible. In the end, we developed FLOWSTATE, a new, flexible model designed to address structural employment gaps for disabled individuals, with a focus on neurodivergent communities. We focused on boroughs like Brent, where overlapping inequalities make hybrid work less accessible. Here is a brief overview of our pitch ⬇️ 1. While hybrid work promised flexibility, in boroughs like Brent, disabled employment remained at 33%, compared to nearly 50% in Camden. 2. These gaps were the result of multiple systemic issues, such as race, poverty, digital exclusion, and access to diagnosis/support. 3. Neurodivergent people without a formal diagnosis face major barriers in remote and hybrid roles as neurotypical workplaces often assume linear thinking, sensory neutrality, and executive function. 4. FlowState responds by building on ground, neurodivergent friendly micro hubs embedded directly into underserved areas 5. To go even further, we also introduced an AI-powered assistant designed to reduce executive dysfunction with built-in daily tools to actually adapt to how you work. A huge thank you to the panel and programme leads for making space for ideas like this to be taken seriously. One panelist in particular who deserves a special thank you is Iona McArdle FRSA for taking time to speak to us afterward and share how much our pitch resonated. She understood the challenges around delayed diagnosis, and how it can mean missing out on critical support in school, work, and beyond. Her words reminded us why projects like Flowstate matter, and how important it is to design systems that truly account for those left out of the current workplace. #socialpolicy #consultancy #workplace #neurodivergent #hackathon #LSE #pitch #careers

Earlier this week we worked with LSE to support them with their first Social Impact Hackathon…well done to the students for embracing the challenge!
Sometimes, the problem, the people and the purpose just click. That’s what happened during the 2025 LSE Social Impact Hackathon. Over two intense weeks, I joined a group of brilliant and committed students to respond to a question that should be at the heart of every future-of-work conversation: What does inclusion really mean and who keeps getting left out? We focused on something that felt both urgent and invisible: the digital exclusion of disabled people in Haringey and Hackney. In a world where job applications, training, and benefits have moved online, being digitally disconnected means being actively shut out. For many, not having a device or a reliable internet connection, or not knowing how to navigate an online system, translates directly into long-term unemployment, isolation, and lost autonomy. We learned that 15% of disabled people in the UK have never been online and 35% lack essential digital skills for life. In boroughs like Haringey, 40% of working-age disabled people are out of work. Moreover, that assistive tech and support are often only available once you’re already in work, creating a cruel paradox for those trying to enter it. So we set out to imagine what it would look like to flip the script. Our proposal pushed for rethinking how infrastructure like Project Gigabit could be used to adress the gap. We designed a model rooted in accessibility and co-production, with community-run digital hubs, peer-led support, and direct partnerships with disability confident employers. We also showed that the economic case is as strong as the moral one: over £1.3 billion in potential public value if just 17,000 disabled residents enter the workforce. Beyond the numbers, this experience reminded me what inclusive change really takes: trust, listening, and making space for the people most affected to lead. To the organisers, thank you for trusting students with real problems and expecting real answers, especially Impact Reporting, and to the judges Ben White, Iona McArdle FRSA and Deborah Pullen MBE. To the amazing team behind the Hackaton, specially Anna Koukoullis And to my teammates Aikaterini (Katie) Kappatou, Avi Jain, Poshika Seemakurti, Jamellah Elegio and Anna Rybalko. #SocialImpactHackathon #DigitalInclusion #Disability #FutureOfWork #LSE #Hackney #Haringey
