Berwick Bank Wind Farm has received development consent from The Scottish Government, clearing the final major approval to progress this game-changing renewable energy project. We spoke with Paul Cooley Director of Offshore Wind at SSE Renewables, who highlighted the immense scale and national and global significance of Berwick Bank: 🔹At 4.1GW, it would become the largest offshore wind farm in the world if fully delivered, capable of powering over six million homes annually 🔹 It would be expected to over £8billion in economic value to the UK and create around 9,300 UK jobs at peak construction, including 4,650 in Scotland 🔹 It could boost Scotland’s operational renewable electricity capacity by nearly 25%, accelerating the journey to net zero by 2045 Paul described it as: “A fantastic achievement not just for SSE, but for Scotland – and for our collective effort to tackle climate change.” Watch the video below to find out more.

♀️ Women in Power – building careers ↗️ There’s still a gap in female leadership across industries, especially in energy. This is why we launched our #WomenInPower campaign, to not only showcase the amazing talent we have, but to also show the various career paths available at SSE. It is also to share the inspirational stories of #WomenInPower, in hopes to encourage other women to take that next step to develop their careers and not be afraid to apply for senior leadership positions. We’re inspired by leaders like Christianna Logan, Director of Customer and Stakeholders at SSEN Transmission, who’s built an 18-year career with us - and counting. Let’s make power more equal. 💪

We have a gender pay gap. ♀️♂️ We're not proud of it, but we're also not hiding from it. Transparency, honesty and dedication to change will help us to close the gap. It is what has allowed us to decrease the gap consistently for the last five years running. Narrowing pay gaps requires sustained effort over time. Our approach is underpinned by a robust Inclusion and Diversity Strategy, with agile action plans which evolve as we learn what works for our business. We're not where we want to be, but we're dedicated to getting there. 🔗 Find out more about how we're powering change to create a more inclusive and diverse workplace in our Inclusion and Diversity Report, linked in the comments below ⬇️

Dogger Bank: A Landmark for the UK’s Clean Energy Future We're making significant progress on the Dogger Bank offshore wind project, set to become the world’s largest offshore wind farm. Scheduled for full completion by late 2025, Dogger Bank will generate 3.6 GW of renewable electricity—enough to power up to six million UK homes! 🏡 This project is not just a key part of our growth strategy—it’s a major step in the UK’s transition to a low-carbon energy system. Delivering infrastructure at this scale shows what’s possible when industry, innovation, and long-term climate ambition come together. The UK’s energy future is being built now.

Yesterday’s update to the hydrogen market shows the UK Government is clear on the importance of hydrogen as a key part of the UK’s clean energy plan. Importantly it also sets out the role of hydrogen in a clean power system, providing low carbon flexibility to back up a renewables-led system. This update follows the recent UK-German partnership, which includes a commitment to accelerate hydrogen infrastructure. UK-headquartered SSE and Berlin headquartered Siemens Energy is a UK-Germany partnership in action, already working together to accelerate hydrogen. ‘Mission H2 Power’, is a multi-million-pound co-investment to deliver gas turbine technology capable of running on 100% hydrogen, fuelling the transition to net zero and potentially boosting the UK’s energy security. We are also working together on the first-of-a-kind Aldbrough Hydrogen Pathfinder project, which would unite hydrogen production, storage and 100% hydrogen dispatchable power generation in one location.

£80M+ and counting for Scottish communities. We’ve just hit a major milestone: over £81 million invested in Scottish towns and villages through SSE’s clean energy community funds. ✅ Over 11,000 communities supported ✅ £23M+ for skills, schools & rural jobs ✅ £65M+ for homes & vital community spaces ✅ £12M+ for climate & green energy projects The best part? Local people lead the funding decisions. As First Minister John Swinney says, "SSE’s funding is a tremendous example of how people can see real benefits from energy projects in their towns and villages." At SSE, we’re proud to put people at the heart of the energy transition. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/enwnhzct
