Heathrow reveals plan for £21bn third runway ✈👀 Heathrow Airport has said it can build a third runway for £21bn within a decade. The airport has submitted plans to the government for a new full-length runway, but insisted it is open to considering a shorter one. The west London hub is seeking permission to open a new 3,500-metre runway to the north-west of its existing location. Vail Williams appointed to market upcoming West Sussex business park 🏢🏷 Property consultancy Vail Williams has been instructed to market a major new build business for industrial and logistics businesses in West Sussex. Panattoni UK Park Burgess Hill is a speculative development with 12 Grade A units available flexibly from 8,142 sq ft to a total of 403,708 sq ft. The park is the first entry into the South Coast market for Panattoni Development Company, the UK's largest industrial developer. Two units have been let to transport giant EMED and motorcycle exhaust systems specialist Austin Racing, with existing tenants including DPD and Roche Diagnostics. EMED occupies 35,000 sq ft at Panattoni Park Burgess Hill on a ten-year lease in a deal concluded by Vail Williams. University of Surrey to host world-first audio research facilities thanks to £2.2m grant 🔊💰 A new national audio hub featuring world-first acoustic facilities is being built at the University of Surrey, thanks to £2.2m in funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The facilities, hosted at Surrey's Institute of Sound Recording, will allow researchers to simulate almost any listening environment on Earth, from a quiet living room to a vast concert hall. Confidence up among South East businesses as service sector surges - Lloyds Bank 💼📈 Business confidence in the South East rose seven points during July to 44 per cent, according to the latest Business Barometer from Lloyds Banking Group. While companies in the region reported lower confidence in their own business prospects month-on-month, down two points at 49 per cent, their optimism in the economy rose 17 points to 39 per cent. The growth was driven particularly by the service sector, where confidence rose 11 points to 61 per cent – offsetting declines in retail, manufacturing and construction. Overall, UK business confidence increased one point in July to 52 per cent – its highest level since 2015 and the third consecutive monthly increase. Turnover races towards £1bn at car dealership giant but profits reverse amid “numerous challenging headwinds” 🚗📈 Turnover accelerated towards the £1bn mark at one of the largest car dealership groups in the country during its latest financial year, according to new documents, but pre-tax profits fell in the face of "numerous challenging headwinds". Redditch-headquartered car dealer Johnsons Cars Ltd operates dealerships across the South of England, West Midlands and North West, selling vehicles from the Volkswagen, Fiat, Honda, Hyundai, Lexus, SEAT, Skoda, Mazda, Toyota, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, Ford and Abarth brands. The company has reported a turnover of £985.4m for the year to 31 December 2024, up from £935m in 2023.
