Last week I had the privilege to attend the NSW Local Government Excellence Awards, celebrating our team being finalists in two categories. Finalist in the Community Development category. Congratulations to Jae Yang, our Diversity Officer for driving the 2024 CBCity International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (#IDERD) project. Her dedication to lead impactful community development initiatives for the local #CALD community in City of Canterbury Bankstown is second to none. Finalist in the First Nations Partnerships category for the establishment of the CBCity First Nations Hub and Resource Centre. The congratulations for this one goes out to so many, in particular, the local #FirstNations community and allies for the ongoing advocacy for nearly two decades in CBCity to establish a cultural hub. Bankstown Community Resource Group as the anchor organisation of the Hub, Hub steering committee members including NSW Health - Aboriginal Health, Bankstown Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, TAFE NSW, long term and dedicated local Elders and of course, our First Nations Community Development Officer, Barbara Grant. Regardless of not taking home a trophy, I’m proud to lead such an amazing team everyday, yet even more so when I see the positive outcomes their hard work and partnerships have on our local community. #CommunityDevelopment #RacialDiscrimination #AntiRacism #ItStopsHere #FirstNationsPartnerships #LocalGovernment #CulturalDiversity #CulturalCentre #AboriginalAndTorresStraitIslanders Leona Oliver Maria Athanasopoulos Sandra L. Here at CBCity, we're proudly celebrating International Women’s Day in 2025 by recognising the incredible individuals within our organisation who are driving change and shaping a more inclusive future. To mark the occasion, we sent 20 of our amazing team members to the annual Local Government NSW IWD lunch today, where they had the opportunity to connect, learn and be inspired. These standout team members have been recognised for their leadership and dedication to creating positive change. They will now bring back valuable insights to lead tailored events across various Council departments, sparking important conversations about what inclusion looks like in our everyday roles, teams and decisions. Happy International Women's Day! 💜
