The winners are in! 📷 This year’s Australian Life and Little Sydney Lives photography competition winners have been announced. Carly Earl took home first place for her photo titled “Riley Swanson on the Roma Southern Road” depicting young drovers on an old stock route in rural Australia. The winner of the under 18 category was Callum Poling for “February Boat Carnival”. Chloe Wiseman won Little Sydney Lives for her image titled “Home-made Mummy Double-Exposure”. Their incredible images along with all 30 Australian Life finalists are now on display at Customs House Square until 24 August. Australian Life and Little Sydney Lives is sponsored by OM Systems [Image description 1: 3 people stand in front of the Australian Life photography exhibition at night and smile to the camera. We've just added another floating wetland in Sydney Park. These wetlands give birds a safe place to roost and breed, while also filtering stormwater. Happy birds, healthy waterways, says urban ecologist Charlotte Fletcher. [Video description: Scenes from Sydney Park wetlands are shown, with a female narrator overlaid on the footage. She is wearing a black top, with a colourful scarf. Scenes include a man paddling on a kayak, checking on plants which have been installed on a floating wetland, and footage of the wetland area more broadly.]

Bike trips across our area increased by a massive 20% from March 2024 - March 2025, and Oxford Street is one of busiest bike routes in our city. With the opening of the new Oxford Street cycleway today, riding between the city centre and the city’s east is now easier and smoother. This cycleway is an important piece in the big bike puzzle. In the east it links with Bourke Street cycleway which can take you on to Moore Park, Zetland and beyond. In the west it joins the College Street, Liverpool Street and Castlereagh Street cycleways giving you access to the city’s north, west and south. The cycleway is also a buffer from traffic for people walking, plus we’ve added garden beds and street furniture, and improved the crossings on side streets, making Oxford Street just a nicer place to be. This project was jointly funded by the NSW Government through its Get NSW Active program.

Our libraries are vibrant community hubs, run by passionate people who genuinely love helping others. Meet Sarah, one of our incredibly talented (and ridiculously funny) librarians here at the City of Sydney. Step into a day in her life at Green Square Library and see how our team helps keep things organised, welcoming and wonderfully fun. [Video description: Video opens on librarian Sarah standing outside Green Square Library smiling at the camera in a colourful dress. She then enters the library holding an energy drink and smiling to the camera. The video continues to follow her throughout her day as she shelves books, helps customers with books and printing and other duties.] #CityOfSydney #PublicLibraries #GreenSquareLibrary

Not your average soup kitchen, this project in Erskineville does double good. Food at The Soup of Human Kindness is prepared by asylum seeker and refugee chefs in Parliament on King’s commercial kitchen. They're paid for their work. It's then distributed by volunteers for free to people going through a tough time in our local community. Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/g5G-Vh37 In the 5 years since it began, the program has delivered thousands of meals, along with support and opportunities for connection. It’s funded by proceeds from Parliament on King’s social enterprise catering project and a City of Sydney food support grant. #Sydney #Volunteers #FoodRelief [Image description 1: A man and a woman are shown standing in front of a bar and coffee machine. Brrr…. This chilly weather has got us thinking about cold weather adventures. Did you know there used to be an ice-skating rink in Prince Alfred Park in Surry Hills behind the pool? ❄️ The rink was built in 1959 and demolished in the mid-1990s. It wasn’t the first in our area. The Glaciarium opened on George Street near Central Station in 1907 and closed in 1955. It’s believed to be the first indoor ice-skating rink in New South Wales. Another rink known as the Ice Palais operated in the Hall of Industries at the old Sydney Showground in Moore Park from 1938 to 1951. Fancy a skate yourself? There’s a temporary open air ice-skating rink in front of IMAX Sydney at Darling Harbour until 20 July. Image descriptions in captions. #SydneyHistory #Sydney
