“We want to be part of a long-term vision and we think there’s value in it. It’s not always tangible on day one. But with the right combination of things, you end up with one and one equalling three, four or five. That’s what proper, planned, thoughtful regeneration development should be about.” In this week's Estates Gazette, Tim Burke interviews Delancey's Jamie Ritblat and Here East's Gavin Poole about the opening of the Victoria and Albert Museum's East Storehouse and the role of arts and culture in real estate and regeneration. 🚨 30 to 1. That’s the current mismatch between demand and supply in the UK’s co-living sector. Just 11,400 co-living beds exist today — for a potential market of 3.7m renters. But co-living isn’t just about beds. It’s about community, flexibility, and creating spaces where people feel connected. The new WhyCo? report, from Conscious Coliving, the collaborative research platform behind the Why Co-Living? campaign featured in Estates Gazette and backed by the likes of CBRE, British Property Federation, HUB, and more, lays out a compelling vision for how co-living can support regeneration, affordability, and wellbeing across the UK. 🏙️ It’s not just where you sleep. It’s how you live. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ewQP_3RD

🔬 Science Sum up: July 14 – 18 The government’s approach to deliver growth in the UK economy through the life sciences sector has been received with cautious optimism. While planning system reform was unanimously welcomed by the industry, there were also calls for further measures to support the evolution of innovation clusters. The launch of the plan has coincided with the UK Health Security Agency confirming the relocation of its headquarters to Harlow after many years of indecision. The move is expected to inject £80m into the local economy each year. Among other movers were OKA, which has brought back its HQ to MEPC Limited's Milton Park (Oxfordshire), having called the site home for over a decade prior to its vacation in 2021. The firm will occupy a 12,971 sq ft office on a six-year lease at 152 Brook Drive. More widely, the most recent data from DTRE LLP has showed that lab take-up in London over the first six months of this year hit its highest level since the peak of 2022. However, demand across the Oxford-Cambridge Arc has ticked down 13% and 22%, respectively, over the same period year-on-year. Turning to the North, MIX MANCHESTER has chosen CHY Consultancy as its dedicated social value partner. The teams will now work together to shape, enhance and embed social value in “every aspect” of the £1bn manufacturing and innovation scheme. On the development front, ARC | Advanced Research Clusters broke ground on its latest lab and office development, called Ascent, in Oxfordshire. Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd will be delivering the 105,000 sq ft facility. Jim Stretton says: “The development of Ascent will help our members thrive, by creating space for collaboration, attracting new talent and investment, and strengthening Oxford’s position as a global leader in science and technology." Further planning updates from the sector are expected to land on Estates Gazette pages through the next week along with other real estate-related scoops. Enjoy the weekend and visit this page each Friday to stay posted. #lifesciences #realestate #development #occupiers #leasing #deals #partnerships #planning #rent #investment #goldentriangle #data

When you’re lucky enough still to work on a print publication, you know how much hard work goes into every page by people who don’t always get a shout out for it. This week, Estates Gazette broke the news of four new trustees joining the board of the LandAid charity. As much as I hope my words did their work justice, the piece wouldn’t be nearly as great in the magazine without the accompanying imagery. That shoot, on Cavendish Square opposite GPE’s headquarters, was my first time getting the chance to work with Jamie Hodgskin, a photographer here at Mark Allen Group, and was a reminder (as if I needed it) of how many amazing individuals me and the team have been able to call colleagues since joining the group almost six months ago. I’m biased, but this week we’ve published some of my favourite pieces the team has written in a long time. As usual, I’ll round my favourites up here, so hit the link at the bottom and you can find… 📰 Shifali Gorka’s exclusive interview with the team behind the Cotswolds Designer Outlet, which opened this week and is the country’s largest new retail development since Battersea Power Station 📰 Evelina Grecenko rounding up reactions from across the life sciences real estate industry to the government’s proposed planning reform, which will see laboratories, manufacturing and other research and development facilities given a "fast-track" 📰 Jess Harrold’s dive into the results of our LGBTQIA+ in Real Estate: Attitudes, Actions and Allies Survey, held in association with networking organisation Freehold LGBT+ CIC 📰 Akanksha Soni’s exclusive interview with Hill Group UK founder Andy Hill OBE who takes us on his journey from redundancy to building a billion-pound business 📰 Dominic Plaskota with a look at the soaring managed offices market in London, courtesy of some number crunching by the team at Rubberdesk UK & Ireland 📰 James Lumley on the reasons why leaseholder reform will be a “windfall” for non doms, in the view of charity lawyers 📰 My and Shifali’s scoop on NewRiver REIT reigniting its search for a joint venture partner to help build a £500m retail park portfolio 📰 Peter Bill on the CMA’s housebuilders investigation and that £100m “commitment” to affordable housing 📰 Three fantastic “outside voices” that you can’t miss: Paul Ratner on lessons for UK real estate from his US adventure; Jackie Sadek on the UK Health Security Agency’s Harlow move; and Amarachi Uzoka, whose short story in The Academy of Real Assets’ student essay book should be warning to all property developers to be on the right side of history. 📰 And this week’s ‘meet the team’ Q&A is with the man himself, Mark Allen, exploring why he wanted to save Estates Gazette but drop the ‘EG’; his love for print publications; why he started (and stopped) playing the sax; and a whole lot more. Enjoy the weekend, and we’ll be back with even more next week. https://lnkd.in/eSPJZfED
