🔬 Liverpool recently hosted the 10th World Congress of the International Academy of Oral Oncology at ACC Liverpool — welcoming over 1,000 delegates from 55 countries to tackle one of our region’s most pressing health challenges: oral cancer. Organised by and featuring leading contributions from our researchers, the congress highlighted cutting-edge advances in prevention, treatment, and survivorship. Liverpool has some of the UK’s highest oral cancer rates. The Liverpool Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Centre (LINC) has officially launched! 👏 LINC unites brain and mind research to tackle some of the most urgent neurological and mental health challenges—impacting over 3 billion people worldwide. In partnership with The Walton Centre, Brain Health Northwest (which also includes Mersey Care and Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust) and global collaborators, LINC brings together 170+ researchers and clinicians across neurology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, and psychology. This world-leading hub is breaking down silos to better understand and treat conditions neurodegenerative diseases, epilepsy, and chronic pain - transforming how we approach brain and mind health. Our Deputy MD Jennifer Crooks attended a fantastic launch event last night for LINC - the Liverpool Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Centre. Another gem in the LCR crown demonstrating that collaboration and partnership between academia, NHS and industry accelerates innovation and research which will ultimately improve the health and wealth of the region and beyond. The event was a combined effort across some of our partners - Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and Charity and University of Liverpool. Congratulations to all involved - LHP will continue to advocate and support this really important piece of work. We have become the first paediatric hospital in Europe to install a ground-breaking 3-Tesla MRI research scanner dedicated to research, a major step forward for medical research in the region and beyond. This state-of-the-art scanner, funded by NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), will primarily support research and is only the second of its kind in the world from the manufacturer.
