The ground conditions comprised of drift deposits with high cobble content and strong siltstone at depth, requiring a robust solution. Preliminary probing ruled out a Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling solution, confirming ODEX as the most suitable option for this challenging site. #RBNorthWest are proud to announce the successful deployment of two of our latest in-house designed rigs, alongside two additional rigs, on a major residential development for Vistry Group in St Helens!🏘️ This project is technically demanding when it comes to the ground conditions encountered on site, which include areas of significant made ground and high walls due to the site’s historic use as a brick manufacturing facility and quarry. To meet these challenges, RBL is employing Driven Precast Concrete Piles, Driven Steel Tubular Piles and its Overburden Drilling System (ODS), a combination chosen for both technical suitability and cost-efficiency. This pile type was selected due to proximity to existing buildings and the #restrictedaccess faced on site. The compact rig size and efficient installation process make them well-suited for deployment in confined spaces such as urban environments, in and around buildings and structures, or areas with limited manoeuvrability and headroom for heavy machinery. Appointed by McLaren on behalf of the Department for Education and the Boxing Academy Trust, this project reflects our growing presence in the commercial sector and our commitment to delivering sustainable, community-focused solutions. We’ll be installing Continuous Displacement Auger (CDA) piles to depths of 13–14 metres, a solution developed by our in-house R&D team to reduce spoil, minimise environmental impact, and perform efficiently in challenging urban ground conditions.
